Mr. Rudroneel Ghosh - Senior Assistant to the Editor-in-Chief of The Times of India, a reputable journalist with many years of experience in the media field and has worked in many countries around the world .
Mr. Rudroneel Ghosh has visited Vietnam many times to report and write articles on political , economic, cultural and social issues, helping international friends better understand the country and people of Vietnam. With his positive contributions to foreign propaganda work, he was honored to receive the First Prize of the 6th National Foreign Information Award in 2020.
A group of Vietnam News Agency reporters stationed in New Delhi had a special interview with journalist Rudroneel Ghosh on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Journalism (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025).
Journalism is facing enormous challenges in the face of the wave of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the explosion of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, according to journalist Rudroneel Ghosh. New generation media platforms have become tools for information manipulation. Social media content is often disguised as news, creating alternative “truths” and even outright misinformation.
In this context, journalists face many difficulties in performing their work professionally. They are operating in an environment where the public no longer sees them as the only reliable source. In fact, many people see journalists as just one of many parties presenting their own “truth”. Therefore, journalists must work many times harder to regain the trust of readers. They need to demonstrate authenticity and build a relationship of trust with the public. Journalists not only need to report the news, but also need to be transparent about the process of collecting and processing information. Only then can authentic and trustworthy journalism survive in today’s information-saturated world.
Regarding the current digital transformation trend in the field of journalism, journalist Rudroneel Ghosh believes that there are two main challenges.
First, online news platforms often do not adhere to the same rigorous editorial standards as traditional print media. In their quest to gain attention quickly, many digital platforms prioritize speed over accuracy, which results in a lack of content quality and fact-checking processes. As a result, errors are common, undermining the platforms’ credibility and making readers question their credibility. The solution is to apply the same rigorous editorial standards to online journalism. It is better to be slow but accurate than fast but wrong.
Second, the biggest challenge of digital transformation is the proliferation of fake content. With the help of AI and new technologies, sophisticatedly edited images and videos can easily infiltrate news platforms, masquerading as real information. Therefore, more efforts are needed to eliminate fake content and detect information manipulation.
Assessing the role of the Vietnamese mainstream press, Mr. Rudroneel Ghosh said that the Vietnamese mainstream press has successfully completed its mission of conveying the official stance of the Vietnamese Government to the international community. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vietnamese press has played an effective role in promptly providing transparent information, helping the world understand how Vietnam responds to the epidemic. Thanks to that, Vietnam has been recognized as one of the models in epidemic control and this success has an important contribution from the domestic press.
Similarly, on other important issues, the Vietnamese press has also played a very prominent role in clearly and strongly communicating the country’s views. This is extremely valuable to international scholars and observers, as such information is often not easily accessible through the mainstream international media. Therefore, the Vietnamese press, including the Vietnam News Agency, has really done a very good job as a media pillar, conveying convincing and accurate information about Vietnam’s policies and achievements, especially on the economic front in recent decades.
In the context of the ever-changing world and the emergence of the above-mentioned challenges, Mr. Rudroneel Ghosh expressed his belief that the Vietnamese press, especially the Vietnam News Agency, will continue to promote its professional role, uphold the principles of truthful journalism and continue to actively contribute to the correct dissemination of the country's policies, achievements and development orientations.

To eliminate this view, he pointed out one of the core principles that President Ho Chi Minh once emphasized, which is "the press must serve the interests of the people." He believes that this principle is especially urgent in the current context, when the press no longer focuses on the interests of the people but instead focuses on factors such as shaping public opinion, propaganda, shallow entertainment or even manipulating information.
Responding to the question of how to make the press truly return to its mission of serving the people, journalist Rudroneel Ghosh emphasized: “We need to proactively seek out and reflect stories and content that are truly relevant to the lives, rights and needs of the people. It is time for press agencies to look back, re-evaluate their role and move towards a constructive press. Being steadfast in the idea of 'taking the people as the root' in press activities in the spirit of President Ho Chi Minh can become an effective 'shield' against the risk of information manipulation and the spread of fake news, while helping to keep readers attached to the mainstream press. That is the right way for the press to maintain its value and reputation in the 21st century"./.
