Request strict management of ships going out to sea when tropical depression strengthens

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has just issued a telegram responding to the tropical depression in the East Sea.

The dispatch stated that on the evening of August 16, the low pressure area in the sea south of Hoang Sa special zone had strengthened into a tropical depression. At 7:00 p.m. on August 16, the center of the tropical depression was at 16.0 degrees North latitude, 112.8 degrees East longitude, with the strongest wind force of level 6, gusting to level 8. It is forecasted that in the next 24 hours, the tropical depression will move northwest at a speed of 10 - 15 km/h, with the strongest wind force of level 6 - 7, gusting to level 9.

To proactively respond, the Minister of Agriculture and Environment requested ministries, sectors and coastal localities to closely monitor the development of the tropical depression and strictly manage vessels going out to sea.

Organize counting and notify owners of vehicles and captains of ships and boats operating at sea of the location, direction of movement and developments of the tropical depression so that they can proactively avoid, escape or not move into dangerous areas, ” the dispatch stated.

The dangerous area in the next 24 hours is from 15.5 - 19.5 degrees North latitude, 109.0 - 114.0 degrees East longitude (dangerous area is adjusted in forecast bulletins). The affected area is the western sea area of the North East Sea (including the Hoang Sa special zone).

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment recommends that coastal localities need to prepare forces and means for rescue when requested.

Media agencies from central to local levels should increase information about the development of tropical depressions to authorities at all levels, owners of vehicles operating at sea and people to proactively prevent and respond.

Ministries and branches, according to their assigned functions and tasks, proactively direct and coordinate with localities and seriously organize on-duty shifts, regularly report to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment through the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention and Control.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 1:00 a.m. on August 17, the center of the tropical depression was at about 16.7 degrees North latitude; 112.3 degrees East longitude. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression was level 6 (39-49 km/h), gusting to level 8; moving northwest at a speed of about 10 km/h.

Forecast in the next 24 hours, the tropical depression on the mainland east of Hainan Island (China), moving northwest, speed about 15km/h. The strongest wind near the center of the depression is level 6-7, gusting to level 9.

At around 1:00 a.m. on August 19, a tropical depression in the northern Gulf of Tonkin moved northwest at 10-15 km per hour. The strongest wind near the center of the depression was at level 6, gusting to level 8.

From the next 48 to 72 hours, the tropical depression will not change direction, moving at a speed of 10-15km/h, gradually weakening in intensity.

Impact of tropical depression, the western sea area of the North East Sea (including Hoang Sa special zone) has thunderstorms and strong winds of level 6-7, gusts of level 8-9, waves 2-3.5m high, rough seas.

From the morning of August 18, the sea in the northern Gulf of Tonkin gradually increased in strength to level 6, gusting to level 8, with waves 2-3m high and rough seas.
