For the first time in Vietnam, Petrolimex Aviation has blended and supplied 1,200m³ of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for Vietjet flights, marking an important milestone in the production and use of SAF in Vietnam.
Along with that, Petrolimex Aviation has transferred the sustainability certificate (Proof of Sustainability - PoS) according to ISCC EU standards, affirming that the fuel source meets strict international standards on sustainability and CO₂ emission reduction.
Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, Mr. Uong Viet Dung congratulated the cooperation between the two units.
Mr. Uong Viet Dung, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam emphasized: "The launch of SAF is not only of commercial significance but also of long-term strategic significance, laying the foundation for building a sustainable domestic SAF supply chain, meeting the requirements of the international market and encouraging cooperation between airlines, fuel suppliers, management agencies and financial institutions to expand the scale of SAF use in Vietnam".
Mr. Pham Van Thanh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Petrolimex, said that Petrolimex has proactively invested in research and mastered SAF blending technology at Nha Be Petroleum Depot, and has become the first enterprise in Vietnam to import SBC - synthetic hydrocarbons from biological/renewable materials to produce SAF. "This success demonstrates the Group's strong commitment to the green transformation journey, accompanying the Government , airlines and the whole society towards sustainable development," Mr. Thanh emphasized.
Representing Vietjet, Mr. To Viet Thang, Permanent Deputy General Director affirmed: "The agreement between Vietjet and Petrolimex Aviation is an important step in the journey towards the goal of green and sustainable development. With 576 modern aircraft ordered, Vietjet's green fleet using SAF will contribute to significantly reducing emissions, protecting the environment and pioneering the use of clean fuel, accompanying the country in the era of global integration."
Previously, on October 17, 2024, Vietjet and Petrolimex Aviation conducted the first two flights in Vietnam loaded with SAF.
Produced from renewable, sustainably sourced materials such as used cooking oil, agricultural by-products, wood biomass, urban waste, etc., SAF can help reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional fuels, while fully meeting international standards for aviation safety.
As the first airline in Vietnam to publish an ESG sustainability report, Vietjet will continue to expand the use of SAF, contributing to the realization of the National Strategy on Green Growth, towards the goal of zero net emissions by 2050 and sustainable development with the country.
