Used motorbike prices plummet due to ban on petrol vehicles

The market for used gasoline motorbikes is in a gloomy period, especially after the Prime Minister asked Hanoi to come up with a plan to ban gasoline motorbikes in the Ring Road 1 area from July 2026. This information immediately affected consumer psychology and pushed used motorbike prices to a record low.

Used gasoline motorbikes have fallen dramatically in price, while electric motorbikes are exploding in the market.

Records at the used motorbike market on Chua Ha Street (Hanoi) show that the number of sellers is greater than the number of buyers. Popular scooter models such as Honda Lead, Vision or new Air Blade models are currently priced from only 10-20 million VND/unit.

Meanwhile, models that were once considered luxury such as Vespa, Liberty… have dropped sharply to only 2-3 million VND/unit.

According to Mr. M., the owner of a shop specializing in buying and selling used motorbikes, the prices of motorbikes are low partly because after purchasing them, the shop has to refurbish them by cleaning, painting and replacing parts before selling them, making profits low and the selling price cannot be high.

Electric motorbike prices: Various models, all prices available

In contrast to the gloomy situation of old gasoline vehicles, the electric motorbike market is booming with a variety of models, brands and price segments, attracting increasing attention from consumers, especially young people.

Electric motorbikes are currently divided into two main segments: under 20 million VND (popular motorbikes) and from 20-40 million VND (mid-range motorbikes). Some models cost only about 10 million VND, mainly Chinese goods using lead batteries instead of Lithium-ion batteries to save costs.

However, according to an employee at a store in Ha Dong district, sales of cheap Chinese cars are slowing down as consumers are starting to worry about quality. Instead, customers are turning to more reputable brands, despite higher prices, thanks to clear warranty policies and better durability.

At the store on Ton Duc Thang Street, staff said that genuine electric motorbike models priced from 15 million VND and up are popular, targeting young customers and office workers.

In addition, customers with high requirements for design and features tend to choose car models from 20-40 million VND, using Lithium-ion batteries with high performance and superior longevity.

In the context of Hanoi accelerating the roadmap to ban gasoline vehicles and develop green transportation, electric motorbikes are becoming an attractive alternative, both economically and in terms of long-term utility.
