Strong breakthrough
Kien Giang University was established in 2014 from the Nha Trang University of Fisheries Branch in Kien Giang , officially operating in 2015. In the period of 2020 - 2024, Kien Giang University has grown strongly, making comprehensive breakthroughs with many remarkable achievements. First of all, the school continuously opens new majors, with diverse major structures, suitable to the strengths of the school as well as local and business needs. The school actively innovates enrollment plans, enhances the application of information technology and closely coordinates with local authorities and businesses to best meet the needs of human resources for the province in particular, the Mekong Delta region and the whole country in general. The number of students is constantly increasing. By 2024, the school will have nearly 6,500 students studying in 25 majors, nearly 7.6 times higher than in 2015.

The quality of output is a proud highlight. The rate of students graduating on time ranges from 70 - 75%; the rate of students having jobs after graduation is over 90%, of which 82% find jobs in their major. This demonstrates the suitability of the training program to the needs of the labor market. Not only focusing on professional training, Kien Giang University also promotes practical connection, creating conditions for students to participate in practice, internships and experiences at production facilities and enterprises.
Quality assurance is a solid foundation for all training achievements of Kien Giang University. In early 2022, the school was recognized for ensuring educational quality. In the 2022-2023 school year, the school had 10 programs recognized for meeting educational quality accreditation standards. With comprehensive development results, in 2023, the school was in the top 100 schools with the best training quality in the country, ranked 68th. According to Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc, Kien Giang University is developing rapidly, affirming its position and prestige in the Mekong Delta region. The school focuses on quality accreditation and promoting domestic and international cooperation, even attracting students from Laos, Cambodia and some ASEAN countries.
Comprehensive development strategy
In response to the requirements of education and training innovation in general and university education development in particular, Kien Giang University has revised and supplemented its development strategy for the period 2020 - 2030, with a vision to 2040. Accordingly, the university focuses on consolidating the foundations to become an applied, multidisciplinary university by 2030, aiming for a smart, applied, multidisciplinary and specialized university by 2040.
Dr. Nguyen Van Thanh - Rector of Kien Giang University shared that in the period of 2020 - 2030, Kien Giang University will focus on building, innovating, and synchronizing policies and management mechanisms to improve effectiveness; perfecting the organizational structure towards streamlining and professionalism; implementing digitalization in management, training, administration and achieving the smart management model in phase 1. The goal by 2030, the school will operate according to a modern university governance model, ensuring transparency and efficiency.
The school builds and improves the quality of its teaching staff, scientists, and managers at all levels in a streamlined, professional manner, meeting the demands of society and the development of science and technology. In its training development strategy, the school sets the goal of continuously improving the quality, scale, and types of training, ensuring flexibility and connectivity between levels to provide high-quality human resources.
The school continuously improves, enhances efficiency and completes the internal quality assurance system, organizes the accreditation of training programs according to international standards. In addition, the school focuses on developing science and technology with the goal of becoming a center for application and transfer of science and technology, especially high technology applications in agriculture, biotechnology, marine economy, and tourism in the Mekong Delta. Innovate to improve the quality and reputation of cooperation activities, contributing to improving training, research and technology transfer capacity. The school promotes the development of facilities, effectively exploits 100% of the land area; builds research farms, practice workshops, digital libraries, and invests in advanced information technology infrastructure.

The total number of employees at the school is 400, of which lecturers account for at least 85%; the proportion of lecturers with doctoral degrees is at least 40%, with at least 1 professor and 2 associate professors. The school develops at least 10 undergraduate training majors; annual enrollment increases by 10%; reaches a scale of 11,000 students, opens at least 3 master's training majors and strives to open 1 doctoral major; the graduation rate is over 85%, the rate of students having jobs upon graduation is over 80% and after 1 year is over 95%. By 2030, the school will meet AUN-QA standards at the educational institution level; 20% of majors are AUN accredited, 100% of the school's training majors are accredited according to regulations. |
