On July 1, Hoan Kiem Ward Police ( Hanoi ) is verifying information about a group of tourists being "ripped off" by taxi drivers in the area.
Talking to Tuoi Tre Online , Ms. H. (tour guide) said that on the evening of June 30, a group of Filipino tourists took a taxi from the ATM in Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square to the intersection of Hang Tre and Lo Su streets.
After getting off the bus, they said they were charged 1.5 million VND for the above distance.
"The group of customers are mainly students, they did not dare to react so they reported it to us," Ms. H. informed.
In addition, the message from the Filipino group also said that they initially planned to go to the restaurant for dinner by walking. However, it started to rain heavily so they decided to take a taxi.
Despite giving the address, the taxi driver took a different route, saying "it was raining and this road is one-way only".
That same morning, Ms. H. shared the incident on social media. Many people expressed their outrage and said that if the incident was real, the taxi driver should be severely punished.
According to a survey by Tuoi Tre Online , the distance from Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square to the intersection of Hang Tre - Lo Su streets is only about 2km long.
