Wirtz is a great deal for Leverkusen. |
Leverkusen pocketed 125 million euros from selling Wirtz to Liverpool (excluding additional fees). The Bundesliga club made a huge profit when it only spent 200,000 euros to recruit this player from Koln U17 team in January 2020.
Wirtz also became the most expensive player sale in Leverkusen's history. Behind him is Kai Havertz, who was recruited by Chelsea for 80 million euros.
The top five most expensive transfers include another Liverpool signing this summer, Jeremie Frimpong, for €40 million. The other two players who helped Leverkusen earn €55 million and €32 million respectively were Moussa Diaby and Leon Bailey, both of whom moved to Aston Villa.
On the other hand, Leverkusen has only brought in 3 new players in this summer transfer window with a total fee of 23.8 million euros. The most notable is the contract of Ibrahim Maza from Hertha Berlin for 12 million euros.
Leverkusen manager Erik ten Hag is drawing up a list of summer signings, including Manchester City midfielder James McAtee. The Etihad outfit are demanding more than £25m plus add-ons if they have to sell McAtee.
In addition, Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah also reached a personal agreement to join Leverkusen. The two clubs agreed a transfer fee of 35 million euros for this player.
