Australia's leading travel magazine Escape has released its list of top trending destinations for next year's Easter holiday (late March). Accordingly, Phu Quoc Island is the destination with the highest growth in searches for Australians traveling abroad based on data from travel search site Wotif, recording a 130% increase in interest compared to 2022.

Considered one of Southeast Asia's "best kept secrets", Phu Quoc Island has mountains, rainforests, white sand beaches and luxury resorts, and is less than an hour's flight from Ho Chi Minh City - the transit hub.

Domestic Australian destinations – the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast – remain the most popular weekend getaways, while Bali and Fiji remain the most popular overseas destinations, but Wotif data shows other Asian destinations are growing at a rapid pace.

“With airlines offering low-cost airfares, plus attractive package deals continuing to increase, it’s no surprise that we’re seeing increased interest in ‘close to home’ overseas destinations such as Vietnam, Thailand, Bali and Hawaii,” said Wotif travel expert.

Overall, the number of Australians heading overseas for Easter next year is set to soar. New data from travel insurer Allianz shows that the number of customers taking out international travel insurance policies for Easter has increased by 37 per cent compared to 2015-2017.

Wotif's top Easter holiday destinations, ranked 1-8: Phu Quoc Island (up 130% YoY); Koh Samui (up 110%), Pattaya (up 80%), Thailand; Hanoi (up 70%); Hoi An (up 60%); Phuket, Thailand; Bali, Indonesia; Honolulu, Hawaii.
