Bursting with happiness on the day of receiving graduation results
Early in the morning of July 16, doctors at the Department of Emergency Resuscitation, Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion received news that a student being treated for leukemia here had graduated with very high results, 28 points in block A00.
Bach confided that he wanted to share this with those who have taken care of and treated him for the past 2 years as a thank you to the doctors in white coats who helped him overcome the most difficult period when he was preparing for the university entrance exam.
"Before, I never thought that having cancer could still help me continue studying and taking exams, but the advancement of science and the dedication of doctors and nurses have helped me achieve my dream," Huy Bach said emotionally.
Truong Huy Bach was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (blood cancer) when he visited the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion in June 2023. Bach and his family were shocked. He is an excellent student at Phu Binh High School, Thai Nguyen province, with a bright future.
During nearly 1 year of treatment at the Department of Emergency Resuscitation, Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion with 4 chemotherapy sessions, even though he had to put his studies on hold for a year, Bach still did not stop studying right on his hospital bed.
"At the hospital, every time I solve problems or do homework, I feel excited and motivated to forget the pain and fatigue caused by chemotherapy," Bach said with a smile.
Master Phan Thi Thuy Trang, Department of Emergency Resuscitation, Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, said that Bach responded to chemotherapy so he had to undergo high-dose chemotherapy for about 4 sessions. Each session lasted from 1-1.5 months at the hospital, which was very tiring.
"Everyone jokes that each time he receives chemotherapy, he is very tired and cannot be chased away by flies. But he receives chemotherapy in the morning and then wakes up to study at night. The doctors and nurses at the hospital are all impressed with Bach because of his diligence and love of learning," shared Master Thuy Trang.

Throughout the treatment process, Bach always had his family, teachers and friends by his side, giving him motivation and hope. Bach's brother, who is working in Japan, returned to Vietnam for a while to take care of him, and his parents also took turns staying at the hospital. The support of his family and the dedicated treatment of the doctors and nurses gave him all the best things so that he could be cured and continue studying.
Nurturing the dream of studying math education
Before being diagnosed with the disease, Truong Huy Bach was an excellent student at Phu Binh High School, winning third prize in 10th grade and second prize in 11th grade in Chemistry at the Thai Nguyen Provincial Excellent Student Competition.
With a special love for studying, Huy Bach always proactively plans to review and solve problems. In 2023, when he was in grade 11, he had to put his school year on hold because he had to go to the Institute frequently. At the Institute, he continued to study by himself to keep up with the progress of his peers.
Bach took advantage of every moment to listen to lectures and memorize them carefully in class. When he had time, he asked his high school teachers for further explanations. For Math, he took online courses with a teacher on Facebook. As for Physics and Chemistry, he only studied in class and self-studied at home.
After treatment and returning to school, Bach maintained his form and continued to "reap" achievements in the Provincial Excellent Student exam with Third Prize in Chemistry in grade 12.
Teacher Tran Linh (Phu Binh High School, Thai Nguyen Province) said that 2025 is the first year of taking exams under the new program. Although Bach only started studying the new program from Semester II of grade 12, thanks to his diligence and efforts, he caught up very quickly.
"When the exam results came out, I thanked myself, but I felt like I had to thank her. I thank the students who fueled the teachers' persistent journey with their profession. I thank her for trying and not giving up," Ms. Linh expressed.
With a total score of 28, Truong Huy Bach's A00 scores are Math: 9; Physics: 9.25; Chemistry: 9.75; he wishes to study at Hanoi National University of Education, Faculty of Mathematics. Bach's dream is to become a Math teacher. This young man feels that he is suitable for teaching and wants to research and learn more about Mathematics.
28 points in the national high school exam are the result of extraordinary efforts, not only the process of studying and reviewing but also the fight to regain life.
