The low pressure area has strengthened into a tropical depression, with the potential to strengthen into a storm.

(QNO) - According to the provincial Hydrometeorological Station, early this morning, June 10, the low pressure area in the North East Sea has strengthened into a tropical depression.

At 7:00 a.m. this morning, June 10, the center of the tropical depression was at about 15.7 degrees North latitude; 115.6 degrees East longitude, about 360 km East Southeast of Hoang Sa archipelago. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression was level 6 (39-49 km/h), gusting to level 8; moving slowly westward at a speed of about 5 km/h.

It is forecasted that by 7am tomorrow, June 11, the tropical depression will be about 240km east-southeast of the Hoang Sa archipelago, moving west at a speed of 5km/h and is likely to strengthen. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression is level 7, gusting to level 9. The affected area is the North East Sea (including the Hoang Sa archipelago) and the North of the central East Sea.

At 7:00 a.m. on June 12, the tropical depression in the Hoang Sa archipelago moved in a West-Northwest direction at a speed of 10-15 km/h and was likely to strengthen into a storm, with a level 8-9 intensity and gusts of level 11. The affected area was the northern East Sea (including the Hoang Sa archipelago), the northern part of the central East Sea and offshore waters from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai.

In the next 48 to 72 hours, the storm is likely to change direction and move in a North-Northwest direction at a speed of about 10km/h and is likely to strengthen.

Affected by the tropical depression, the North East Sea (including the waters of the Hoang Sa archipelago), the North of the central East Sea will have thunderstorms and strong winds of level 6-7, gusts of level 9, waves 2-4m high, rough seas. Ships operating in the above-mentioned dangerous areas are likely to be affected by thunderstorms, whirlwinds, strong winds, and big waves.

Quang Nam sea area in the next 24 hours will have scattered showers and thunderstorms. During thunderstorms, beware of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind. West to Northwest wind level 4-5, normal sea, waves from 0.5-1.5m high.

The provincial Hydrometeorological Station requests to notify ships operating in the above sea area to take preventive measures.
