The dialogue took place in the context of people being upset for many days, preventing garbage trucks from gathering at An Hiep landfill, due to the prolonged environmental pollution.
At the meeting, the households requested that the foul smell not continue to occur, especially that the leachate be thoroughly treated, to avoid it flowing into the river, affecting daily life, livestock farming and fishing. If this cannot be resolved, they requested to stop bringing garbage from other places, because every day hundreds of tons of garbage are dumped here.

According to Mr. Pham Minh Tri, Vice Chairman of An Hiep Commune People's Committee, the landfill is currently receiving waste from 15 communes and wards in the area, with a volume of 200 - 220 tons/day. However, due to many unfinished items such as covering the landfill ponds (ponds 11, 12), the leachate treatment system is not synchronized, leading to the emergence of foul odors.
At the same time, the phenomenon of landslides on the wall of the garbage storage area poses a potential risk of garbage spilling onto people's land. The Commune People's Committee proposed to build an anti-erosion embankment to protect the environment, but the cost of implementation exceeds the capacity of the commune and the landfill operator. Therefore, the locality proposed that relevant departments and agencies provide support solutions.
Responding at the dialogue, Mr. Vo Van Ngoan, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Vinh Long province, said that the provincial leaders are very concerned and have implemented many urgent solutions such as spraying biological products to deodorize, enhancing the treatment of leachate at pond number 9, and speeding up the covering of ponds number 11 and 12 to prevent rainwater from seeping in and causing leakage.
Mr. Vo Van Ngoan said that the People's Committee of Vinh Long province has directed the Agricultural Project Management Board to urgently survey and implement solutions to prevent landslides in the landfill area. At the same time, he called on people to join the community monitoring team to promptly report arising problems, contributing to protecting the living environment in the area.
