VN-Index soars despite foreign investors net selling more than 2,500 billion VND
Despite fierce selling pressure from foreign investors, VN-Index still closed in the green and increased by more than 8 points, surpassing the 1,275 point mark.
After yesterday's adjustment session, some experts said that short-term transactions should be carried out cautiously. The group of experts highly appreciated the market in the medium and long term, so they recommended that investors should continue to hold a stable proportion, proactively maintain cash to be ready to trade when large stocks adjust.
The stock market entered today's session (September 24) with increased caution as the VN-Index opened below the reference. Demand for disbursement at low prices immediately appeared, bringing the index back to the reference before gradually widening the increase range. However, this state did not last long because selling pressure at high prices appeared and caused the index representing the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange to reverse below the reference before the lunch break.
Cash flow returned strongly in the early afternoon, helping the VN-Index reverse from decline to increase. The index closed today's session at 1,276.99 points, up 8.51 points compared to the reference.
Today, the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange had 256 stocks closing in the green, overwhelming the number of stocks falling with 119 codes. The VN30 basket contributed positively to the excitement when 25 codes closed above the reference and only 3 codes fell.
The banking group traded enthusiastically as 7 representatives of the 10 stocks with the most positive impact on the index belonged to this group. BID accumulated 1.13% compared to the reference, up to 49,250 VND, becoming the main driving force for the market. The remaining stocks included MBB up 1.81% to 25,250 VND, STB up 3.41% to 31,850 VND, VIB up 3.24% to 19,100 VND, VCB up 0.33% to 91,200 VND, SSB up 3.45% to 16,500 VND and VPB up 1.05% to 19,200 VND.
Green also covered the oil and gas group, especially in the leading codes. Specifically, PVD increased by 2.6% to VND27,550, GAS increased by 1% to VND73,700 and POW increased by 0.8% to VND12,600.
The seaport group joined the excitement when most stocks closed in the green. Of which, PVT increased by 1.1% to VND28,000, HAH increased by 0.6% to VND40,450 and DVP increased by 0.1% to VND75,000.
VNM reversed the market trend when it fell 0.28% to VND70,300 and became the stock with the most negative impact on the VN-Index. The real estate group recorded a negative status when ITA hit the floor to VND2,400 and closed with no buyers.
The aviation group also faced fierce selling pressure when SAS decreased 1% to VND28,600, SCS decreased 0.2% to VND80,200.
Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange today recorded more than 817 million shares successfully transferred, equivalent to a transaction value of VND17,917 billion. The matched volume increased by 253 million shares compared to the previous session, while the transaction value increased by VND5,017 billion.
The large-cap basket contributed to liquidity of more than VND11,736 billion, equivalent to nearly 509 million shares successfully transferred. Of which, STB ranked first in terms of transaction value with nearly VND781 billion (equivalent to 24.8 million shares). The following stocks were VPB with more than VND717 billion (equivalent to 37.6 million shares) and MWG with more than VND452 billion (equivalent to 6.6 million shares).
Foreign investors net sold more than VND2,514 billion in today's session, marking the strongest selling session in nearly 2 years. Specifically, this group sold 194 million shares, equivalent to a transaction value of more than VND3,959 billion, while only disbursing more than VND1,445 billion to buy 52.4 million shares.
VIB recorded a sudden transaction from foreign investors with a net selling value of about VND 2,750 billion, followed by VND 47.4 billion. In contrast, foreign investors' cash flow focused on MWG shares with a net value of about VND 94 billion, followed by MSB with VND 77.9 billion and STB with VND 68 billion.
