VnExpressVnExpress24/06/2023

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs directed embassies and representative agencies to closely monitor the situation in southern Russian cities and prepare plans to protect and support citizens.

"The security and order situation in Rostov-on-Don city and some southern regions of Russia has complicated developments. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has directed the embassy and representative agencies to closely monitor the situation and prepare plans to protect and support citizens, especially the Vietnamese community in the areas," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on June 24.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that citizens in southern Russian cities and the capital Moscow comply with the laws and instructions of local authorities. Citizens should stay at home, refrain from participating in large gatherings or making long trips within Russia.

In case tensions in Russia increase, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that citizens prepare evacuation plans and keep in regular contact with local Vietnamese associations and Vietnamese representative agencies in Russia for prompt support.

Citizens planning to visit the cities of Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kursk and Rostov in the near future should consider safety factors and not make trips unless absolutely necessary and if the situation develops in a new and complicated manner.

On June 23, the Russian Security Service (FSB) announced the opening of an investigation into Yevgeny Prigozhin for "inciting rebellion" by calling on Wagner forces to fight against the Ministry of Defense .

Prigozhin accused the military of being behind the missile attack on the Wagner training camp that caused heavy casualties. Wagner claimed to have seized military facilities in Rostov, then took control of another facility in Voronezh, 500 km from Moscow.

The Russian government denied Prigozhin's accusations. Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned Wagner's actions as treason and authorized the military to take necessary measures to restore order.

The Russian Defense Ministry issued a statement calling on Wagner militants to stop their rebellion, saying they were being lured into criminal activity by tycoon Prigozhin. The Russian government launched an anti-terrorist operation against Wagner and tightened security in the Moscow suburbs.
