Speaking at the opening of the Halal training course, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang said that Halal is a field that is both new and old, closely linked to the trend of globalization and the rapid expansion of the world market. The Government has closely directed the development of the Halal industry, but awareness and understanding of this specific market still need to be updated, especially in localities with great potential.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has identified promoting international cooperation on Halal as one of its key tasks, in addition to ensuring a peaceful and stable environment and enhancing international status. This is also a field with great development potential, with more than 2 billion Muslims, accounting for about 25% of the world's population; the demand for Halal products is increasing, not only in food but also expanding to cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, fashion, tourism, finance and logistics. The global Halal market size is expected to reach 10,000 billion USD by 2028.
In the context of the complex world political and economic situation, global trade is affected by many factors, Vietnam - with a highly open economy, is implementing the policy of diversifying markets, partners, products and supply chains. Developing the Halal industry is considered a suitable direction, helping to ensure economic security and strategic autonomy.
Assessing Vietnam's advantages and determination to participate in the Halal market in the coming time, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang added that Vietnam has many potentials and advantages to participate in the Halal market, especially in the fields of agricultural products and seafood.
Seafood exports to the Middle East and Africa are growing rapidly, opening up prospects for diversifying export markets.
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Dinh Cong Hoang - Head of Middle East and West Asia Research Department, Institute of South Asia, West Asia and Africa Studies introduced the topic "Global Halal Market: Potential and international cooperation activities to develop Vietnam's Halal industry"
The Government and the Prime Minister have given strong directions on the development of the Halal industry, considering it a strategic field. Vietnam's senior leaders also regularly include Halal cooperation in discussions with international partners. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the pioneer agency, having developed a project to promote international cooperation on Halal - Vietnam's first project in this field.
At the same time, the Ministry of Science and Technology is proactively building a National Halal Certification Center, gradually perfecting the policy framework.
Acting Director of the Center for Conformity Certification Nguyen Tuan Anh, National Committee for Standards, Metrology and Quality, Ministry of Science and Technology introduced the topic "Standards, Halal certification and some notes for businesses"
Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang suggested that localities and businesses proactively learn about Halal development and potential partners. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Science and Technology are promoting investment attraction from a number of Middle Eastern businesses to develop industrial parks specializing in Halal production in Vietnam, forming a complete ecosystem from production, processing to export.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is committed to working with localities in implementing economic diplomacy, promoting the potential of Halal cooperation, and aiming for sustainable development. The Deputy Minister hopes that localities, businesses and relevant agencies will join hands to effectively exploit the potential of the Halal market, contributing to the country's economic development in the new period./.
