Van Yen prospers from the people's strength

The year 2024 marks an important turning point in the journey of building new rural areas (NTM) of Van Yen commune. With the completion of 100% of the advanced NTM criteria, the commune has affirmed the tireless efforts of the entire political system and people in improving the quality of life and rural infrastructure.

One of the highlights in the process of building advanced new rural areas in Van Yen is the movement of "Expanding 6m hamlet roads". The whole commune has expanded the hamlet roads with a total length of nearly 13,000m, 699 households have donated more than 33,850m² of land, contributing more than 7.5 billion VND.

Along with that, the project to renovate DT.263B section through the commune (from Km12 to Km15) is also a testament to high social consensus. With over 150 households donating land and assets, the total estimated value is 1.72 billion VND.

Van Yen has a total natural area of over 2,454 hectares, of which rice growing area accounts for 740.4 hectares. Agricultural production continues to be the economic spearhead with a total grain output of over 4,530 tons, always reaching and exceeding the set plan. Corn is grown on an area of 55 hectares with an output of 257.4 tons.

In addition, crops such as sweet potatoes, peanuts, vegetables, sugarcane, cassava, etc. are also maintained stably with an area of 245 hectares, contributing to the diversification of agricultural products.

In agricultural production in Van Yen, tea is indispensable, identified by the commune as a “key” crop with a total area of over 132 hectares; fresh bud output reached over 1,600 tons. Notably, the area of newly planted and replaced tea with high productivity and quality last year reached 200% of the plan, reflecting the orientation of sustainable tea cultivation and gradually improving the quality of local products.

Comrade Ngo Van Thang, Chairman of Van Yen Commune People's Committee, said: The commune continues to effectively implement programs and projects on tea development; focuses on transferring new scientific and technological advances into tea production, processing and consumption through training programs of the agricultural extension system. Encourages households to cooperate in safe tea production according to VietGAP standards; encourages the establishment of cooperatives, striving to achieve a fresh tea bud output of over 1,620 tons this year.

In recent years, the construction materials production industry has developed in Van Yen commune, bringing a relatively stable source of income for some households.

Besides agriculture, Van Yen also recorded a clear development in the industrial and handicraft sector. The total production value is estimated at 38 billion VND, equal to 102.7% of the plan (2024). Notable are mechanical processing, unburnt bricks, dry tea processing, household wooden furniture... contributing to job creation, income improvement and budget revenue increase for the commune. Trade and service activities are stable, meeting the consumption needs of people with a retail value of over 25 billion VND/year.

The criteria for cultural life and social security all achieved impressive results: 2,082/2,252 households met cultural standards (92.33%), 15/15 hamlets and 5/5 agencies achieved cultural titles, exceeding the set plan. Culture, arts and sports took place enthusiastically, especially the Van - Vo Mountain Festival, summer art programs for teenagers... creating a joyful atmosphere, solidarity and community cohesion.

Poverty reduction work continued to be promoted with the poverty rate falling to 2.05% (down 1.71%), exceeding 114% of the target; near-poor households fell by 1.28% to 3.13%.

“Completing the advanced NTM target is a proud milestone, but also poses new challenges for Van Yen in maintaining and promoting the achievements that have been made. With a solid foundation, high solidarity and flexibility in management, Van Yen is affirming its position as a bright spot in the NTM construction movement of Dai Tu district.” - Comrade Ngo Van Thang shared.

To continue to maintain, improve and enhance the quality of the advanced NTM criteria, the Party Committee, government and people of Van Yen commune must continue to strive and make more efforts. The journey of building the homeland from a purely agricultural commune into a model locality today is a vivid proof of the inner strength of the people of Van Yen - the children who are continuing to write glorious history in the heroic land.
