In mid-June 2023, lychees ripen bright red all over the hilly gardens in Hai Duong, Bac Giang , Hung Yen...

With an estimated national output of about 370 thousand tons, lychees are transported by trucks and containers across the country to market alleys and supermarket shelves; lychees are also transported by plane and ship to many countries and territories around the world.

On June 20, the first batch of fresh lychees of the 2023 crop from Bac Giang province arrived in Houston (USA) by air. Immediately after that, fresh Vietnamese lychees were sold simultaneously at many of the largest supermarkets and Asian markets in Houston, Texas (USA).

The retail price for customers is 14-15 USD per Pound (equivalent to about 780,000 VND per kg); or 140 USD for an 11 Pound (5kg) package, equivalent to 3.2 million VND (640,000 VND/kg).

At the same time, Ho Guom - Song Am High-Tech Agriculture Company Limited (Ho Guom Group) exported seedless lychees to the Japanese and British markets. According to a survey, in the Japanese market, seedless lychees are being sold at 4,500-5,000 Yen/kg (750,000-840,000 VND/kg).

Previously, in early June, a batch of Vietnamese U Hong litchi was also imported to the UK by TT Meridian Company, becoming the first batch of Vietnamese litchi officially exported to the UK this year.

Compared to similar products as well as other imported fruits, Vietnamese lychees have a quite high selling price in the UK, 15 pounds/kg, equivalent to 435,000 VND.

Mr. Huynh Tan Dat, Deputy Director of the Plant Protection Department, informed that 17 shipments, with a total weight of over 82 tons of lychee, have been certified as eligible for export to Japan. The retail price of lychee at Japanese supermarkets is at 400,000-550,000 VND/kg.

On the business side, Mr. Nguyen Khac Tien, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ameii Vietnam Joint Stock Company, shared that the business is busy preparing lychee export orders to Japan, Germany, England, the Middle East, etc.

In the Japanese market, this year, businesses expect lychee exports to increase by about 30-50% compared to the same period last year. In addition, durian exports to Japan also grew well.

"Lychee exports to Japan in 2023 will grow positively, businesses will have more orders than in previous years," Mr. Huynh Tan Dat predicted.
