During the recent days of severe floods, there have been many live images from the scene recorded by the grassroots cadres themselves. If in the past, to reach the disaster sites, reporters spent a lot of time traveling hundreds of kilometers, and were even helpless when traffic was completely cut off, this year in the Western Nghe An region, a new bright spot has been shown for the people's media and grassroots media. The devastated scene appeared realistically, showing the damage of each household, the difficulties of each individual person... That truth has moved thousands of hearts, urging volunteer teams to quickly set out to provide relief, providing each box of noodles, bag of rice, tarpaulin, and raincoat.
On July 29, among many cases shared by the people's media, there was a story about a pregnant woman named Pit Thi Hien in Muong Tip (Western Nghe An) who was about to give birth. She was helped by commune health workers to walk dozens of kilometers of forest road to the medical center, but she was too late and went into labor on the way. Amidst the rain and floods, the mother and baby were successfully delivered by doctors and nurses. Immediately after the image of the mother and baby was posted on social media, more than 100 million VND was donated by the community, helping the mother and baby get through the confinement period under a temporary tarpaulin roof on the side of the road.
In addition to the timely appeal and efforts of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of the heavily affected provinces; in addition to the great support from the Central Government, provinces and cities across the country as well as compatriots everywhere in the country and abroad, the people's media has become a strong and effective connection channel, contributing to bringing relief goods to isolated areas faster than ever. Specific stories, specific people, specific circumstances reflected with very genuine emotions have moved the community, creating conditions for support from the community to come faster, to the right place, to the right people. Transparency has contributed to nurturing more trust in charity because every journey has authentic images, monitored, shared and spread by the online community.
Returning to the story of grassroots cadres like the case of the Chief of Police of Huoi Tu Commune, Captain Lo Dinh Quang, in the context of natural disasters, when the mainstream media agencies have not yet arrived, broadcasting live from the scene is not only a creative way but also creates more trust of the people in the grassroots cadres. After those initial quick and urgent minutes of the grassroots media, the press and mainstream media have continued to spread correct, timely and humane information to contribute to overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, supporting people to gradually rebuild their lives. These days, the flood water is still rising, but humanity is even higher. From all over the country, trucks carrying rice, noodles, clothes, medicine, money... are still following each other to the flooded areas, bringing the warmth of the people.
Natural disasters challenge people, but they are also the times when human love becomes stronger and shines brighter. It is from these difficult times that the strength of the community is multiplied many times over, helping people in flooded areas not only receive food supplies but also have more motivation and faith to stand up and move forward.
