Many currencies fluctuated on the first day of the week

In the first trading session of the week (August 18), the State Bank listed the central exchange rate down 4 VND, down to 25,245 VND/USD. However, the USD exchange rate as well as many other key foreign currencies traded at commercial banks were adjusted up.

According to the regulated trading band of ±5%, today's ceiling exchange rate is 26,507 VND/USD, the floor exchange rate is 23,983 VND/USD. The reference exchange rate at the State Bank's Foreign Exchange Management Department is currently 24,033 VND/USD (buy) - 26,457 VND/USD (sell).

At commercial banks, in the morning, Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) and Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam ( BIDV ) both listed the USD exchange rate at 26,090 VND/USD (buy) - 26,450 VND/USD (sell), an increase of 10 VND in both buying and selling compared to the closing session last week.

In the free market, the USD/VND exchange rate is trading around 26,450 - 26,505 VND/USD, unchanged for many consecutive sessions.

In the world market, the USD Index (DXY) measuring the greenback's fluctuations against six other major currencies in the currency basket stood at 97.84. Over the past week, the DXY index recorded a decrease of about 0.4% compared to the currency basket, reflecting the change in market expectations for US monetary policy.

The USD is forecast to continue to be under downward pressure, reflecting market expectations that the US Federal Reserve (FED) will cut interest rates at its meeting next September.

For other foreign currencies, the EUR bought in cash was listed by Vietcombank early this morning at 29,954.41 VND/EUR (up 144.46 VND); while the transfer buying price was 30,256.98 VND/EUR (up 145.92 VND), and the selling price was 31,533.67 VND/EUR (up 152.06 VND).

The British pound exchange rate also increased significantly with the cash buying price being 34,689.99 VND/GBP (up 66.95 VND); the transfer buying price being 35,040.39 VND/GBP (up 67.63 VND); the selling price being 36,162.63 VND/GBP (up 69.77 VND).

As for the Chinese Yuan (CNY), Vietcombank today increased the selling price by 1 VND compared to the morning of August 15, listing the exchange rate at 3,601 - 3,716 VND/CNY (buy - sell). At BIDV, the CNY exchange rate remained unchanged, 3,609 - 3,707 VND/CNY (buy - sell).

In addition to the major currencies, most of the other currencies in the exchange rate table also recorded an upward trend. Specifically, the Singapore dollar, Canadian dollar, Swiss franc, Hong Kong dollar, Chinese yuan, Saudi Arabian Riyal and Swedish krone all increased in both trading directions. On the contrary, the Thai Baht and Russian Ruble tended to decrease slightly.
