Talking with an 84-year-old female veteran who met Uncle Ho on the day of general training

In that vibrant and heroic rhythm, the image of veteran Trinh To Hop quietly sitting next to his granddaughter became a quiet moment, making many people feel nostalgic.

When seeing reporters taking photos, Ms. Dang Mai Hong, Ms. Hop's niece, shared that she was the daughter of revolutionary Trinh Dinh Cuu, one of the people who participated in founding the Indochinese Communist Party.

As the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd approached, memories of the resistance war surged in her mind. For that reason, despite her poor health, she still went with her grandchildren to watch the parade and march and was given priority to sit up front, near where the military equipment was gathered.

Ms. Dang Mai Hong, her niece, shared: “The day before, we missed the first practice session, so today the family decided to take her to the second session. Seeing her excited to immerse herself in this atmosphere, I was also very touched.”

While waiting for the training session to take place, Mrs. Hop slowly recounted many memories of her childhood and the past resistance war.

Carrying on her family tradition, she joined the revolution at the age of 18. In 1946, the National Resistance War broke out, and from Hanoi she followed her parents to the Viet Bac Resistance Zone.

According to the story, in 1953, she was sent to study at the Vietnamese Children's School in Guilin (China). A year later, the young girl was sent to study at the Vietnamese Children's School in Moscow (former Soviet Union).

After finishing 7th grade, she returned to Vietnam and continued her high school education at 3A High School. In 1962, Doan returned to the Soviet Union to study at the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics, Lenin University in Uzbekistan.

In 1967, when the resistance war against the US entered a fierce phase, Ms. Trinh To Hop returned to the country to work at the Military Technical Institute ( Ministry of National Defense ). She and her teammates devoted themselves to researching a number of special weapons such as A12, DKB, FE, AS...

When the news of victory from the battlefields in the North and the South was reported, the collective joy exploded as the research topics were successfully tested one after another. In 1996, the group's special weapons projects were honored to receive the first Ho Chi Minh Prize from the State.

Having been involved in special weapons research projects, now seeing the inheritance and development of modern weapons to protect the Fatherland, Mrs. Hop emotionally said: “I am extremely proud to be reborn in this heroic atmosphere. Until now, I still deeply understand Uncle Ho's teachings and every day tell stories about Uncle Ho to teach my children and grandchildren to try to study and follow his moral example.”

Among the crowd of people excitedly going to Ba Dinh Square, the veterans, Uncle Ho's soldiers with gray hair and unsteady steps, still silently followed each line of young soldiers. In their tearful eyes were memories of a time of battle, of blood and bones, and of youth devoted to the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
