A corner of the "Thiep pottery" exhibition space

The exhibition is curated by artist Le Thiet Cuong and is an activity to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the birth of writer Nguyen Huy Thiep (1950-2025).

During his lifetime, Nguyen Huy Thiep was a writer who loved painting, especially pottery. He often went to pottery and Bat Trang pottery village. He painted many portraits of his family members, self-portraits, and artistic friends on plates as a hobby and as gifts for people. Many people still keep them and hang them in their homes as a memory of writer Nguyen Huy Thiep.

The 41 artists in this exhibition are all readers of writer Nguyen Huy Thiep. Before they painted, before they were artists, they were readers. Therefore, according to artist Le Thiet Cuong, calling the ceramic works in this exhibition illustrations is not correct because illustrations should not be understood literally because such illustrations will cheapen both writing and painting.

Illustration should translate that sentence into another language, the language of painting. That is, to turn the text into shape, color, light and dark, blocks, strokes, layouts... so that the text has another life, so that the reader has another way of reading.

Besides the works of artists, this space also displays a corner of works by writer Nguyen Huy Thiep himself.

The exhibition runs until July 20.
