First photo exhibition on Vietnamese female peacekeepers

This is an activity to honor Vietnamese female soldiers participating in United Nations peacekeeping operations on the occasion of the 94th anniversary of Vietnamese Women's Day.

At the same time, it also aims to affirm Vietnam's consistent commitment to Resolution No. 1325 of the United Nations Security Council on women, peace and security.

Nearly 100 photos on display at the exhibition were taken by Vietnamese soldiers directly participating in activities at United Nations peacekeeping missions.

These photos not only honor the contributions of female soldiers, but also provide an opportunity for the public to better understand their arduous and meaningful journeys in remote missions.

The photos on display are living proof of the courage, resilience and humanity of Vietnamese female soldiers.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Colonel Mac Duc Trong, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department, said that in January 2018, Vietnam successfully deployed the first female officer to participate in UN peacekeeping operations as a combat staff officer at the UNMISS mission headquarters.

“To date, the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense has deployed 18/119 female soldiers as individuals, accounting for 15.12%. The proportion of women deployed as units is 129/930, reaching 13.87%. Vietnam strives to maintain an increasing proportion of women according to the United Nations' goals,” Colonel Mac Duc Trong added.

According to the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department, Vietnamese female soldiers are deployed to United Nations field missions to perform various tasks such as staff officers on operations, intelligence, training, military-civilian coordination, logistics, military provisions, equipment, military observers, and liaison officers.

For the unit formation, Vietnamese female soldiers are in charge of commanding the Field Hospital, managing logistics, administrative staff work, engineering, military medicine and even protecting the force.
