After storms No. 3 and No. 5, Con Cuong commune became a landslide hotspot. Many households living along the Lam River had their houses gradually “swallowed” by the water. Life was turned upside down and they were always worried about losing their safe place to live.

During storms No. 3 and No. 5, Con Cuong commune was one of the localities that suffered the most damage in Nghe An province. Floodwaters flooded many households. After the water receded and the storm dissipated, landslides occurred along the Lam River, threatening people's lives.

The family of Mr. Tran Van Hai, in Thuy Khe village, Con Cuong commune, was one of the households affected by the landslide after the storm. Mr. Nguyen Van Hai said: At 4 pm on September 2, the landslide occurred, dragging part of the family's house, which is also the family's business, into the river. The landslide also damaged the electric vehicle charging station next door and threatened the gas station next to the house. My family is very scared.

According to Mr. Hai: The landslide has been happening for 7-8 years now. Every year, the landslides go away a little bit. In particular, 2024-2025 is the strongest landslide. Previously, his house was 30m from the riverbank, but now the river has "eaten" right into his house...

According to the reporter’s observation, the riverbank erosion in Thuy Khe village still has the potential to continue to expand. The area around Mr. Hai’s house and the gas station has many large cracks. This area could “fall” into the Lam River at any time.

It is known that not only Thuy Khe village suffered landslides but also Vinh Hoan village. Here, 15 households (with more than 50 people) suffered serious landslides due to the impact of storms No. 3 and No. 5, of which, 5 households had to temporarily move to another place.

Mrs. Tran Thi Bay (58 years old), in Vinh Hoan village, said: My family moved to the village in 1993. At that time, the Lam River was 20m from the house. In the past 2 years, landslides have occurred. Each year, the landslide is about 10m. Currently, part of the family's house has collapsed into the river. The landslide is threatening the remaining part of the house...

In Con Cuong commune, there are 3 landslide areas recorded, including: Chan Nan village area (1 household), Thuy Khe village (1 household) and Vinh Hoan village (15 households)... After storm No. 5, currently, the Lam river water is still rising, so the commune authorities have not been able to survey and record the entire situation.

Mr. Luong Quoc Hung - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Con Cuong Commune said: After the water recedes, the commune will conduct a survey, assess the specific landslide situation and propose a solution, requesting support from the province. In the immediate future, Con Cuong Commune has been and is continuing to evacuate households at high risk of landslides to a safe place.

It is known that on the afternoon of August 29, a working delegation led by Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Hong Vinh went to Con Cuong commune to survey the proposed location to build a resettlement area for 15 households in Vinh Hoan village.

The land proposed by the commune has an area of ​​about 5 hectares, located on 5% of the commune's land fund, 2 km from the old location... The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged the consensus of the households in relocating to the new location and agreed with the plan proposed by Con Cuong commune./.
