On top of Ta Nang hill

Ta Nang - Phan Dung, a hiking route known as “the most beautiful in Vietnam”. This route is famous for two seasons: green grass season and burnt grass season.

The desolate afternoon on the hillsides of the burning grass season has become a classic image of this place. The green grass season is eye-catching. But this road is also famous for its danger during the rainy and flood season. That is what I learned before setting out on my own to explore and experience.

Actually, conquering this route is not too difficult. On the way, I also met children traveling with their parents. However, for office workers who do not exercise much, many people are exhausted, collapse, have to get on the car and be taken home. The forest vehicles here are also a "specialty" with chained wheels, welded-in frames, and homemade gas tanks to weave through winding, steep hills and also to carry the most things, including people.

After the flat road at the beginning of the journey, we were challenged by a very “difficult” slope. It was a steep pine hill that even the strongest people had to gasp for breath and sweat profusely while climbing. How long it was! But in return, we had beautiful photos capturing the moment when the light shone through the forest of leaves when we reached the top of the hill, sat down to rest and listened to the pine trees rustling in the wind. Sitting against the pine tree, listening to the sound of the wind, the rustling of leaves under the slanting sunlight, I felt so peaceful.

On this trip, for the first time, I saw with my own eyes the green grass carpets sparkling beside the forest under the slanting sunlight. It was truly beautiful “like in the movies”.

The whole group, though drenched in sweat, was very happy when reaching the milestone with the top of Ta Nang - Phan Dung under the bright sunlight. This is the intersection of the three old provinces of Lam Dong - Binh Thuan - Ninh Thuan , now the two provinces of Lam Dong - Khanh Hoa. Each person took a photo, everyone was happy and cheerful. Then we continued our journey because the road ahead was still long.

The highlight of the trip was probably the camping trip in the afternoon. The tour guide cleverly chose an ideal location because from there, we could fully enjoy the beauty of this route. It was a flat land on a hillside covered with burnt grass, vast and immense. In the distance, all around were mountains. After setting up camp, the whole group went exploring, sightseeing and taking pictures of the sunset.

As soon as it got dark, the campsite was lit up and the barbecue party began. In the middle of that poetic mountain and hilly space, strangers who had just met each other after a day of traveling suddenly became close and friendly. It was easy to bond with everyone in that setting. It was as if after going through the challenges of this beautiful journey together, people could easily connect.

The days were as dry as the nights. In the middle of the night, I was suddenly awakened by the sound of wind and rain. As soon as I poked my head out of the tent, I felt cold. Curled up in the thermal blanket, I felt the warmth in the cold night.

However, that is not all. The sunrise in Ta Nang - Phan Dung is also incredibly beautiful. Welcoming the dawn and waiting for the sun to rise with my fellow travelers, then having breakfast with a bowl of noodles full of braised ribs, I suddenly felt that my life was truly too full.

On the way back, after passing through the dry dipterocarp forests and hot rocky beaches, we got on motorbike taxis that the locals had been waiting for to get out of the forest.
