On the afternoon of March 1, the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) issued a warning that the negative impacts of the severe hot weather that has occurred in Ho Chi Minh City and the Southern region in recent days could affect health.

Many people hospitalized due to heat

At the same time, many hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City also received many patients for examination and hospitalization related to hot weather. Particularly at Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital, many patients came to see doctors for skin diseases due to hot weather, including cases of hot, burning facial skin, many erythematous rashes, and peeling skin for two weeks.

According to HCDC, heat is not only uncomfortable but can also affect health. Common health problems during hot weather include: heatstroke, heat exhaustion or stroke.

The causes of the above conditions are mainly due to long hours of exposure to hot conditions, without rest and hydration, or due to sudden changes in temperature.

The groups of people at high risk of being affected by heat are the elderly, children, women; outdoor workers; and people with chronic diseases.

To prevent diseases caused by hot weather, HCDC recommends that people should:

- Drink enough water: should drink many times a day, should not drink too much water at once.

- Limit exposure to hot sun: avoid going outside between 10am and 4pm. When you have to go out, protect your body from the sun by wearing a mask, sun-protective skirt, long-sleeved jacket, gloves and socks. Choose fabrics that are breathable and sweat-absorbent.

Reasonable rest and work

- Rest and adjust to the temperature: if you are in an air-conditioned room. Give your body time to adjust to the outside environment before going outside.

- Eat a balanced diet: increase your intake of green vegetables and fruits, and include soup in your daily meals. In particular, drink enough water and avoid drinking too much coffee or alcoholic beverages.

- Exercise and strengthen your body: exercise regularly to keep your body healthy.

Especially for those who have to work in hot weather, they should work during the coolest times of the day, such as early morning or late afternoon.

Limit working in high temperature environments. Take regular breaks after about 45-60 minutes of work, rest in a cool place for 5-10 minutes.

Protect your body from the sun by limiting exposure to the sun, especially the neck and shoulders. Drink enough water regularly during work hours.

Use canopies, heat-reflecting panels, insulation materials, water spraying systems, misting systems, and air conditioning systems... to cool the workplace.

The rare heat of the past few days has affected the lives of people in Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast region. Many workers and people who make a living outdoors choose to take shelter under bridges, porches, parks, etc.
