Foreign Minister Choi traveled to Moscow last week to meet with President Putin and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.

" The government of the DPRK warmly welcomes President Putin to visit Pyongyang and is ready to welcome the closest friend of the DPRK people with the greatest sincerity," the office of the North Korean assistant foreign minister quoted Ms. Choe as telling Mr. Putin.

For his part, President Putin expressed his willingness to visit the DPRK at the earliest opportunity, and expressed deep gratitude to the government and people of the DPRK for their support and solidarity with the government and people of Russia regarding the special military operation in Ukraine.

Last year, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un traveled to Russia by train from September 12-17, 2023. During the visit, the Pyongyang leader visited important Russian military and technological sites.

Will North Korea consider South Korea as "hostile country number 1"?

Russia and North Korea's increased military and economic cooperation has the US and South Korea interested and concerned, in the context of tensions on the Korean peninsula heating up with Pyongyang's ballistic missile testing and spy satellite launches.

North Korea successfully put a spy satellite into orbit in 2023, which South Korea said was thanks to Russia's assistance. Neither North Korea nor Russia commented on the information.
