A German administrative court ruled on February 6 that the Youth wing (JA) of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party could be listed as a right-wing extremist organization by the country's intelligence agency.

In its ruling, the Cologne-based court said that “JA is an extremist organization.”

According to the court, the JA propagated a “nationalist view” of German society, seeking to preserve the German people within the national structure and, if possible, to purge “foreigners”.

Part of this approach, the court noted, was demonstrated by JA's "continued incitement" of anti-foreigner sentiment, especially against people of Muslim origin.

In addition, JA also incites anti-democratic sentiment and maintains ties with organizations considered unconstitutional, such as the “Identity Movement”.

German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser welcomed the court's ruling, saying it showed Berlin was facing up to racist and democratic practices.
