Max Dowman is not allowed to share a dressing room with the Arsenal first team. |
Emerging prodigy Max Dowman has attracted attention after being named by coach Mikel Arteta in the 30-man Arsenal squad for the 2025 summer Asian tour. The 15-year-old talent is considered one of the brightest gems of the academy, with 19 goals and 5 assists in just 23 games for the youth teams last season.
Arteta has heaped praise on Dowman, calling him “a huge talent” and hinting at the possibility of him being used next season. However, if he is given a chance to play in the first team, Dowman will have to abide by special FA rules, which prohibit him from changing clothes with the adult players in the first-team dressing room.
Under FA rules, any player under the age of 18, considered a minor, is not allowed to change with an adult for safety and legal reasons. This means Dowman will have to have his own changing area or arrange separate changing times.
This is not the first time Arteta has encountered such an awkward situation. He previously called the rule "unbelievable" when Ethan Nwaneri was also banned from the first team dressing room when he was only 15 years old.
Despite the controversial rules, Arteta is bound to adhere to them. And if Dowman continues to progress, Arsenal will have to be flexible to ensure the development of their young star while also complying with English football laws.
One thing is for sure, with his blossoming talent, Dowman will be a name to watch for Arsenal in the near future.
