On February 2, 2025, Viet Tan disseminated a so-called "political document" entitled "A Truly Sustainable Era", presenting a series of distorted arguments, aiming to swap concepts, and sow doubts among a section of cadres, party members, and people about the era of national development. Viet Tan chose a very sensitive time to disseminate: the Communist Party of Vietnam had just celebrated its 95th anniversary; the draft documents submitted to the 14th National Congress were completed; the whole country was looking forward to the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification. This was a calculation to take advantage of a major event to disrupt public opinion, reducing people's trust in the Party's leadership. In this so-called document, Viet Tan focused on delving into 3 fundamental issues.

They distort and deny the revolutionary achievements of the nation under the leadership of the Party and the management of the State. In terms of economy, they both admit that Vietnam has grown, and at the same time claim that this development is "unsustainable" and that "the risk of falling behind is always present". In terms of politics, they completely deny the achievements in building and rectifying the Party, streamlining the apparatus, and fighting against corruption and negativity; deliberately distort the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace , cooperation and development; and defame the "4 no's" defense policy. In terms of culture and society, they fabricate that the communist regime "represses and terrorizes the people's spirit", that traditional cultural values "are seriously degraded"; at the same time, they incite ethnic and religious divisions to break the great national unity bloc.
They accuse the Communist Party of Vietnam of being the cause of the country's "falling behind". With a deceitful tone, they insist that the "one-party" regime is a "barrier to development", slandering our Party for missing "golden opportunities" for the country to take off. More dangerously, they distort Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh's thought, denying the Party's ideological foundation - which is the compass for all victories of the Vietnamese revolution.
They set up a so-called “way out” for Vietnam to soon become an “Asian dragon”. In it, “democracy” and “human rights” are repeated over and over again like an old refrain. In essence, this is just a trick of “old wine in new bottles”, a trick they have used many times: Saying it over and over again to sow doubt, gradually influencing the awareness of a segment of the uninformed masses.
The consistent goal of Viet Tan is to eliminate the leadership role of the Party, undermine its ideological foundation, deny the achievements of nearly 40 years of renovation, divide the great national unity bloc, and thereby sabotage the new era of development of our country. However, these arguments are completely baseless and are refuted by Vietnam's development reality.
After nearly 40 years of implementing the renovation policy, our country has achieved great and comprehensive achievements. In terms of economy, from a poor, backward country, devastated by war and embargo, Vietnam escaped the group of low-income countries in 2008, joining the group of middle-income countries. The economic scale in 2024 will reach more than 470 billion USD, ranking 32nd in the world, among the top 20 economies in terms of trade and investment attraction. This is an unprecedented step forward in the history of national development.
Politically, Vietnam has maintained its independence and sovereignty, broken the siege and isolation, and created a peaceful and stable environment for development. Foreign relations have been increasingly expanded, and to date, it has established diplomatic relations with 194 countries, including 13 comprehensive strategic partners. Vietnam's international position and prestige have been increasingly enhanced, and the international community has assessed it as a bright spot in peace, cooperation and development.
In terms of culture and society, people's lives have been constantly improved. The poverty rate has decreased from 60% (in 1986) to 1.93% (in 2024) (according to multidimensional standards). Average life expectancy has increased from 62 years old (in 1990) to 75 years old (in 2024). Gross domestic product (GDP) per capita has increased 25 times in just 3 decades. The national education system has been fundamentally and comprehensively reformed; social policies, ethnic and religious policies, and policies for people with meritorious services have received increasing attention. The health care system has been constantly strengthened, better meeting people's needs.
Regarding national defense and security, the national defense and security potential has been consolidated; the strength of the great national unity bloc has been promoted; the peaceful and stable environment continues to be maintained. The People's Army and the People's Public Security have been built in a revolutionary, disciplined, elite and modern manner, worthy of being sharp tools of the Party, the State and the people. This is an important factor ensuring that our country steadily enters a new era of development. These achievements are strong evidence, completely refuting the argument that Vietnam is "lagging behind" or "unsustainable".
Moreover, the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam is the decisive factor in all victories. The Platform for National Construction in the Transitional Period to Socialism (supplemented and developed in 2011) affirms: “The Communist Party of Vietnam is the ruling party, leading the State and society”. The 2013 Constitution clearly states: “The Communist Party of Vietnam... is the leading force of the State and society”. Historical practice over the past 95 years has proven that the Party has always been the only force with enough courage, intelligence and experience to lead the nation to overcome countless difficulties and challenges, achieving one victory after another.
The right path for Vietnam to develop is to firmly pursue the goal of national independence associated with socialism. The achievements of the renovation over the past 40 years are clear evidence. At the same time, with the spirit of looking straight at the truth, the Party has always courageously pointed out limitations, inadequacies, and causes, thereby proposing appropriate, flexible, and timely solutions. Thanks to that, the country has continuously developed, overcome unpredictable changes in the world, taken advantage of opportunities, and overcome challenges.
It can be affirmed that the era of the Vietnamese nation's rise is not an "illusion" or "hasty" one, but an objective reality, originating from the Party's wise leadership, from the nation's comprehensive potential, the increasingly enhanced international position and especially the strong unity between "the Party's will and the people's heart". This is the source of strength that ensures the country's sustainable development, prosperity and well-being in the future.
Sabotaging the Party, the State and the path to socialism in Vietnam is a constant plot, clearly demonstrating the evil and reactionary nature of hostile forces. Therefore, along with consolidating and maintaining faith in the Party's leadership, each cadre, party member and people need to heighten vigilance, resolutely fight to defeat all distortions, contributing to firmly protecting the Party's ideological foundation and the path to socialism that our nation has chosen. That is to protect the era of the Vietnamese nation's rise - the era of independence, freedom, happiness and sustainable development.
