On November 7, sharing solutions to promote exports in the new situation amid continued complicated developments such as the decline in world demand, high input fuel prices and inflationary pressure, meeting the requirements of sustainable development, digital transformation, meeting the regulations of origin of free trade agreements (FTAs)... Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien affirmed that in recent times, the exploitation of FTAs ​​has been directed and implemented by the Government, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, ministries, branches and localities, and has achieved many positive results.

The most obvious point is that in the past 3 years, Vietnam has been ranked as one of the 20 countries with the largest international trade scale in the world, with a high growth rate of about 12.5% ​​or more and continuously having a trade surplus. In the first 10 months of 2023, Vietnam had a trade surplus of 2.6 billion USD.

To achieve such results, the Government, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, relevant ministries, branches and localities have promoted bilateral and multilateral negotiation activities, focusing on key and potential markets.

Up to now, in addition to participating in the implementation of many FTA Agreements with coverage of nearly 60 countries and territories; in which, most of the major economies in the world have participated.

At the same time, Vietnam is also continuing to negotiate FTAs ​​with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA, including 4 countries: Switzerland, Norway, Ireland, Liechtenstein), the South American market community (Mecosur), the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Canada (with the UAE, negotiations are expected to end this November).

At the same time, continue to study the feasibility of negotiating and signing trade agreements and trade incentives with a number of potential new partners, partners with complementary economies to the Vietnamese economy, and partners with potential in science and technology to move towards FTA negotiations in the coming time.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has promoted the effective implementation of international commitments within the framework of FTAs ​​that Vietnam has participated in, ensuring sustainable development; in which, focusing on implementing the Action Program to implement new generation FTAs ​​such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the Vietnam-UK Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA).

In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade also focuses on promoting in-depth foreign economic relations, especially economic relations with countries and large, potential partners to create leverage for domestic economic and trade development. In particular, promoting the role of Vietnamese trade agencies abroad to grasp and promptly inform about fluctuations in the world economy as well as new policies of host countries, contributing to orienting domestic production.

Thereby, helping enterprises build and adjust production and business plans in accordance with criteria, standards and conditions of foreign markets. In particular, every month, the Ministry of Industry and Trade maintains a global trade exchange regime with associations and domestic export enterprises.

One of the groups of solutions that the Ministry of Industry and Trade focuses on promoting is administrative reform, facilitating import and export activities, developing logistics services and e-commerce. Furthermore, coordinating with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in negotiating to open export markets for fruits and agricultural products; focusing on removing technical barriers for businesses to penetrate deeper into new markets with potential.

In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade focuses on promoting the digital transformation program at the highest level in trade promotion activities, connecting supply and demand, promoting the construction, development and promotion of national brand products, products with geographical indications and collective trademarks, certification trademarks and industry brands at home and abroad. The Ministry strengthens the connection between Vietnamese enterprises participating in the supply chain of foreign enterprises in Vietnam and participating in the supply chain of foreign markets.

In addition, focus on improving the capacity of trade defense work and early warning of lawsuits. Finally, continue to promote and disseminate commitments in FTAs ​​so that Vietnam can implement them effectively.
