Guava prices are hitting rock bottom.
Guava prices fell sharply.

In Cai Be district, many guava farmers are in dire straits because guava prices are very low. Guava prices fluctuate between 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg, even 500 VND/kg, causing gardeners to suffer.

Mr. Tran Van Phat (My Loi A commune, Cai Be district) said that the price of guava in the locality is falling miserably. His family grows 3 hectares of guava intercropped with durian. However, in recent days, guava varieties such as Taiwanese, red-fleshed... are only priced at 1,000 VND/kg, causing him to suffer losses.

In My Loi B commune, Cai Be district, Nguyen Van Quang's family is also in trouble because of the fall in guava prices. According to Quang, there are currently some cases where traders come to the garden to buy guava from farmers at 500 VND/kg. The traders weigh the guava and pay, but leave it there without taking it home; because it is difficult to sell, taking it back to the warehouse will cause more losses. Because they are familiar with the situation, traders are forced to buy to maintain their relationship in the future.

Mr. Huynh Van Be Em, Director of My Loi A Agricultural Cooperative (My Loi A Commune, Cai Be District) said that the price of guava in the area is very low. Specifically, the Cooperative is purchasing guava from people at a price ranging from 2,000 - 3,000 VND/kg. The price of guava must be between 3,000 - 4,000 VND/kg for the gardeners to break even. Guava is mainly intercropped with durian by farmers to "take short-term to support long-term".

According to the leader of Cai Be District People's Committee, there are currently several hundred hectares of guava in the district, mainly intercropped with durian. "There are some cases where traders want to maintain their relationship with farmers, so after cutting, weighing and paying, they do not transport. At this time, most types of fruit in the area have decreased sharply, possibly due to problems in the market."
