They are mostly students who are in the process of practicing after completing the theory part, choosing this tree-lined sidewalk as their "real-life classroom". One group after another, not only to practice their hairdressing skills but also to send a little bit of affection to the community.
Free haircut on Ly Thai To street (HCMC)
Huynh Tan Phat (16 years old, from An Giang ) came to Ho Chi Minh City, staying at a barber shop in District 10 (old). After 4 months of hard work on the "mannequin" head, Phat decided to go to the sidewalk to cut hair for free for people.
Huynh Tan Phat (16 years old, from An Giang) is cutting hair for a "familiar customer" of young people here.
"I arrive around 10am and don't leave until 5pm. When customers compliment me on my beauty and give me a new style, I'm very happy. I'm more confident and cut better every day," Phat shared with a bright smile.
Even though it's free, the "young workers" still treat their customers like "gods". They take care of each cut as meticulously as in a professional salon.
Hairdressers are crowded from noon to afternoon with many different ages.
Neat and short… are the criteria of the "gods" who choose this haircut place.
"It's satisfying and economical, so I come here regularly. Sometimes I give the kids some money to buy coffee, sometimes I don't, but the kids are still happy to get their hair cut," said Mr. Thanh (75 years old, 3/2 street), a regular customer here.
After waiting for their turn, the "summer break" group got their hair cut by the young barber.
With basic tools, the young hairdressers here will do all the hairstyles that customers request and guarantee beautiful results.
After a day of cutting hair, young barbers always clean up before leaving.
An honest tech driver: "Although not as good as a shop, it's neat, clean, and free. I save 50,000 VND per month, which is a lot."
Just like that, the "loving hair salons" on the sidewalk, or the free iced tea boxes, zero-dong rice, hung noodles... have become the typical "specialties" of love and affection of Ho Chi Minh City.
