(Chinhphu.vn) - On July 6, 2025, local time, on the occasion of attending the expanded BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had meetings with leaders of countries and international organizations attending the Conference.

The Prime Minister met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of Uzbekistan Sodiq Solihovich Safoyev, Ugandan Vice President Jessica Rose Epel Alupo, Head of the Russian delegation, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

*Pleased to meet again with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated the achievements of the Indian Government and people under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi; at the same time, highly appreciated India's increasingly important role at international forums, including BRICS.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for his good wishes and affirmed that the Vietnamese Prime Minister is a close friend of India.

*At the meeting with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that Vietnam wishes to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries and respectfully conveyed President Luong Cuong's invitation for the President to soon pay an official visit to Vietnam. The Nigerian President affirmed that he attaches importance to developing relations with Vietnam, Nigeria's priority partner in Southeast Asia.

The two leaders agreed to promote economic, trade and investment cooperation, soon increase bilateral trade turnover; and strengthen cooperation in other potential areas such as energy, mining, sustainable use of resources, infrastructure development, and climate change response.

* Meeting with Ugandan Vice President Jessica Rose Epel Alupo, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Uganda, considering Uganda one of its priority partners in Africa.

Vice President Jessica Rose Epel Alupo highly appreciated Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements and wished to deepen the multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Uganda, especially in economics and trade.

The Ugandan Vice President suggested prioritizing agricultural cooperation, especially agricultural processing, coffee and mining, and hoped that Vietnamese businesses would come to explore cooperation and investment opportunities in these areas. The two sides agreed on many measures to help promote bilateral cooperation in the coming time.

*At a meeting with First Vice President of the Senate of Uzbekistan Sodiq Solihovich Safoyev, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to strengthen the traditional friendship with Uzbekistan. The Prime Minister expressed his wish to welcome Uzbek leaders to visit Vietnam in the near future.

The First Vice President of the Senate of Uzbekistan congratulated Vietnam on its outstanding economic achievements in recent times; highly appreciated the visit of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to Uzbekistan in April 2025, saying that the two sides need to maintain high-level delegation exchanges to consolidate and develop bilateral relations. He also expressed his wish to visit Vietnam soon.

*At the reception for Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in a friendly and sincere atmosphere, the two sides reaffirmed the principles and major orientations to promote and strengthen cooperation, develop the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Russian Federation.

At the meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the two sides reaffirmed the principles and major orientations to promote and strengthen cooperation, develop the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Russian Federation - Photo: VGP/Nhat Bac

The two sides agreed to continue effectively implementing the engagements and agreements reached during General Secretary To Lam's recent visit to the Russian Federation (May 2025), increase delegation exchanges at all levels and through all channels; promote economic-trade cooperation, investment, transportation, e-commerce, labor cooperation, biological cooperation, pharmaceuticals, tourism and people-to-people exchange.

*At a meeting with Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam highly appreciates the role of the WTO in leading and promoting the process of trade liberalization effectively, and supports efforts and initiatives to reform the WTO to improve the effectiveness of the organization's operations in the new context.

Director General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala highly appreciated Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements in recent times and Vietnam's active participation in the WTO framework. The Director General welcomed Vietnam's consistent stance in proactively and actively integrating into the international community, supporting the WTO to promote its central role in promoting the global multilateral trading system./.
