According to the special correspondent of VNA, within the framework of attending the expanded BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on the afternoon of July 6 local time, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with First Secretary andPresident of Cuba Miguel Diaz Canel.
In an atmosphere of friendship, the Prime Minister respectfully conveyed the warm regards of General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and his own to General Raul Castro, Mr. Miguel Diaz Canel and senior Cuban leaders.
The Prime Minister also conveyed the invitation from the Vietnamese high-ranking leaders to Mr. Miguel Diaz Canel, First Secretary and President of Cuba, to visit and attend the 80th National Day Celebration of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that he always pays close attention to and directs Vietnamese ministries, sectors, and enterprises to actively implement high-level agreements and engagements reached during the State visit of General Secretary and President To Lam to Cuba in September 2024, especially on food security, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology.
The Prime Minister affirmed that the Party, Government and people of Vietnam consistently support Cuba, requesting the US to end the embargo and remove Cuba from the list of countries believed to sponsor terrorism.
The First Secretary and President of Cuba expressed his utmost appreciation for the solidarity and valuable support that the Party, Government, National Assembly and people of Vietnam have given to Cuba.
The Cuban President emphasizes the historical significance of General Secretary To Lam's visit to Cuba in 2024, opening a new chapter in bilateral relations.
Mr. Miguel Diaz Canel welcomed and appreciated the presence and effective operations of Vietnamese enterprises that are cooperating in business and investment in Cuba, affirming that Cuba is always interested in creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to develop and expand business and investment activities in Cuba, bringing benefits to both sides.
The two sides agreed to continue to increase delegation exchanges and high-level contacts, regularly deploy bilateral dialogue and cooperation mechanisms including political consultations between the two Foreign Ministries, the Intergovernmental Committee, the Theoretical Workshop between the two Parties, and the Defense Policy Dialogue to review and promote the effective implementation of cooperation agreements.
The two sides agreed to continue to closely coordinate in implementing various activities to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (December 2, 1960 - December 2, 2025), the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Year to contribute to educate the younger generations of the two countries about the tradition of special friendship and solidarity between the two peoples.
The two leaders also discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual concerns, agreeing to closely coordinate at multilateral forums such as the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), South-South Cooperation, and the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC).
On this occasion, the Prime Minister conveyed President Luong Cuong's invitation to Cuba to send a delegation to attend the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime in Hanoi in October 2025./.
