At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that Vietnam is steadfast in its foreign policy of independence and self-reliance for peace, friendship, cooperation, development, multilateralization, diversification and comprehensive and extensive international integration. Along with that, Vietnam is building an independent and self-reliant economy associated with proactive and active international integration, extensively, substantially and effectively.
According to the Prime Minister, in recent times, in a context of more difficulties and challenges than opportunities and advantages, Vietnam has maintained macroeconomic stability, controlled inflation, promoted growth, and ensured major balances.
In the context of difficulties in attracting FDI worldwide, Vietnam remains an attractive investment destination. To date, Vietnam has signed 16 free trade agreements with more than 60 economies around the world and is continuing to negotiate other agreements.
The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam continues to listen to investors' opinions and closely monitor the domestic and foreign situation to have appropriate policy responses.
Belgian Ambassador to Vietnam Karl Van Den Bossche affirmed that Belgium wishes to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in various fields, especially in the context of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.
Considering that the energy transition is a big challenge, even for developed regions like Europe, the Ambassador congratulated and appreciated the Vietnamese Government for issuing the Power Plan VIII. This is an important basis for businesses to carry out power projects.
General Director of the Group John Cockerill shared his vision, investment cooperation orientation, reported on the operation situation in Vietnam and future plans, especially in the fields of energy, hydrogen, and hydrogen electrolyzer production.
Mr. Francois Michel said that this working trip to Vietnam aims to implement signed agreements and seek opportunities to expand investment in other fields in Vietnam, making Vietnam a stronghold of the Group in all fields.
The delegation had surveys and worked with ministries, branches and some localities of Vietnam to agree on the investment plan for the factory producing activated carbon from coconut shells and coconut by-products in Ben Tre province, building a hydrogen factory in Tra Vinh and working with the Ministry of National Defense to promote cooperation in the defense industry.

The Head of the Vietnamese Government welcomed and highly appreciated the John Cockerill Group's desire to expand its investment in Vietnam in both scale and field.
Emphasizing Vietnam's great potential and advantages in developing renewable energy, especially wind power and solar power, the Prime Minister said that Vietnam encourages investment in the renewable energy sector in the spirit of "harmonious benefits and shared risks" between the State, businesses and people, in which all five factors are calculated, including: power source, power load, distribution, electricity use and electricity price suitable to the affordability of people, businesses and the economy.
The VIII Power Plan was approved with a number of major orientations such as the plan being "open and dynamic" depending on the situation; prioritizing the development of wind, solar, hydrogen power... to achieve the goal of zero net emissions by 2050 as committed at COP 26. The plan takes into account the possibility of exporting electricity, in which Vietnam has agreed to buy and sell electricity with Singapore with a power transmission line across the sea, in the trend of diversifying markets, products, and supply chains.
The Prime Minister suggested that John Cockerill Group consider and soon make a decision to invest in long-term production in Vietnam in renewable energy - the Group's strength and also Vietnam's need, especially the production of green hydrogen and biomass fuel; strengthen cooperation and support Vietnam in building and perfecting policies, capital sources, research and application of science and technology, improving management capacity and training human resources in this field; consider Vietnam as a stronghold serving the Vietnamese market and the whole region.
The Prime Minister also asked the Belgian Ambassador and the Group's General Director to promote cooperation in the fields of chip manufacturing and innovation with Vietnam; John Cockerill to soon study the establishment of an office and research or training facility on hydrogen and renewable energy at the Vietnam National Innovation Center in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park.
The Prime Minister hopes that Ambassador Karl Van Den Bossche will continue to promote and call on Belgian businesses to invest in Vietnam, and that the John Cockerill Group, with its extensive network of branches and relationships around the world, will promote the bridge to bring international investors to Vietnam; especially in emerging fields such as digital transformation, innovation, green transformation, circular economy, etc.
