Unknown goalkeeper sets world record at FIFA Club World Cup 2025

(Dan Tri) - Goalkeeper Fabio Deivson Lopes Maciel made football history when he became the player with the most clean sheets in official tournaments.

At the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the US, Fluminense excellently won a ticket to the round of 16 after drawing 0-0 with Mamelodi Sundowns. This result helped the Brazilian representative get 5 points, ranked 2nd in Group F after Dortmund.

The 44-year-old goalkeeper with 507 clean sheets officially surpassed Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon (506 matches) to become the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in official tournaments.

Not stopping there, Fabio is now only 15 matches away from breaking the world record for the most appearances by a goalkeeper, a record currently held by English legend Peter Shilton with 1,390 matches.

Fabio began his professional career playing for Uniao Bandeirante, before moving to top Brazilian clubs such as Vasco da Gama, Cruzeiro, Athletico Paranaense and currently Fluminense.

According to statistics, this veteran goalkeeper has played a total of 1,375 official matches, including 30 matches for Uniao Bandeirante, 150 matches for Vasco da Gama, 976 matches for Cruzeiro and 219 matches for Fluminense.

The Brazilian goalkeeper has been a goalkeeper for 28 years, from 1997 to 2025, his journey is a symbol of perseverance, enduring talent and a strong love for football.

With 507 clean sheets, Fabio has an impressive rate of 36.87%, surpassing many legends in football history.
