NDTV reported that Air India flight AI171 carrying 242 people crashed in Ahmedabad (India) after takeoff on June 12, killing 274 people, including those on the ground. Only one passenger survived the accident.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau of India (AAIB) is investigating the cause of the crash, not ruling out sabotage.

Civil Aviation Minister Murlidhar Mohol added that the plane's black box has been recovered and is being kept by the AAIB. They will not send the black box abroad for examination.
"The plane crash was an unfortunate incident. The AAIB has launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Investigators are looking at all angles, including sabotage. CCTV footage is also being reviewed and all angles are being assessed," an official said.
The Air Traffic Control Center in Ahmedabad said the pilot issued a "Mayday" signal, indicating an emergency, shortly after takeoff.

"There has never been a case of both engines failing at the same time," the Indian official continued, referring to claims by veteran pilots and experts that a failure of two engines could have been the cause of the crash.
"When the investigation report is released, we will be able to determine whether it was an engine problem or a fuel supply problem or why both engines failed. A cockpit voice recorder was found that recorded the conversation between the two pilots. It is too early to say anything but whatever it is, it will be released. The report will be available in about three months," the official said.
