Similar to the previous two films, “28 Years Later” continues to take place in England, which has been severely devastated by a virus called “Rage”. Infected people, instead of becoming “walking corpses”, become aggressive, completely lose control of themselves, and are completely dominated by rage. Their sole purpose is to attack and infect others. That has been somewhat recreated in the opening scene of the trailer above.
“28 Years Later” follows the journey of father and son Jamie and Spike as they leave their island home, which remains steadfast amid the pandemic, to travel to the mainland for an undisclosed purpose. This trip is predicted to be especially dangerous, because no matter what the circumstances, they will have to fend for themselves without receiving support from their relatives on the island.
The trailer for “28 Years Later” doesn’t reveal too many details about the film’s plot. Instead, Sony focused on showing off thrilling action scenes, intense chases, and clearly depicting the ferocity of those infected with the Rage virus.
Additionally, many scenes show widespread devastation and the suffering of survivors, highlighting the fact that the war between infected and uninfected people has yet to end after nearly three decades.
Another interesting detail in the trailer is the appearance of mysterious symbols, which fans have deciphered to mean “memento mori” (remember that you will die). This is the password to unlock the website rageleaks.net, which contains a secret file that reveals more information about the island called Lindisfarne Commune. According to the file, Lindisfarne is a safe community with a stable social order, and there have been no attempts to break the quarantine. This suggests that this may be one of the few places that still maintains peace in a world full of hysterical individuals, in the midst of a collapsed civilization.
The film stars many famous names such as Ralph Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Alfie Williams.
“28 Years Later” will be released on June 20, 2025 worldwide, including Vietnam.
