The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor) has just reported to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on the implementation of the dredging, infrastructure construction, and environmental improvement project on the North bank of the Doi Canal. This project has a total investment of more than VND 7,300 billion, using the city budget, with the goal of completion in 2028.

In terms of scale, the project includes the construction of about 4.3km of embankment combined with dredging part of the canal bed; widening Hoai Thanh and Nguyen Duy streets to 20m; building a new 16m wide Nguyen Duy extended street (from alley 157 Hung Phu to the Y-shaped bridge) and Hiep An 2 bridge.

In addition, the project will also build a system of rainwater drainage, wastewater, trees, and lighting along the canal roads; build an inland waterway wharf (passenger wharf type) along the North bank of Doi Canal...

The project has 3 construction packages. Currently, the investor is urgently implementing the work of preparing design documents, construction drawings and estimates for the project items.

Of which, construction package 2 is expected to start in September 2025 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Day on September 2. Next, construction package 1 and construction package 3 are expected to start in October 2025.

Regarding compensation and site clearance, the investor has transferred compensation, support and resettlement funds for the project to the District 8 Compensation and Site Clearance Board for implementation. It is expected that in August 2025, the locality will hand over the site in time for the project to start construction.

According to updated data from the District 8 Compensation and Site Clearance Board, the project has 1,617 affected cases. Currently, 1,089/1,617 cases have agreed to the compensation plan, of which 104 cases have handed over the site.

Regarding difficulties, the Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Projects said that up to now, there has been no agreement on the method of implementing the relocation of the technical infrastructure system. Therefore, the investor proposed that the Department of Construction and the Department of Agriculture and Environment provide specific and detailed instructions on the method of implementing the compensation for technical infrastructure works to ensure the project's progress as planned.
