On the afternoon of July 2, the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) said that heavy rain continued to occur over a large area in the Northwest region of the North, especially in Lao Cai, Lai Chau and Son La provinces. Soil saturation, flash floods and landslides occurred sporadically in some areas, seriously affecting people's lives and traffic.
In Lao Cai province, the rainfall measured at Tham Duong station on the afternoon of July 2 was 86.4mm. Soil moisture exceeded the saturation threshold of 85%. On the night of July 2, this area is forecast to continue to have rain, with some places forecast to exceed 60mm. There is a high risk of flash floods, landslides and subsidence in Nam Chay, Ban Ho, Che Tao, Duong Quy, Hung Khanh, Luong Thinh, Pung Luong, Van Ban, and Vo Lao.

In Son La province, heavy rains caused serious landslides on National Highway 4G, near the old Na Ot Commune Health Station, now in Phieng Pan Commune (Son La Province). Large amounts of rock and soil, along with water, flooded the road, making it difficult for vehicles to move. Local residents shared information and warned drivers to update the situation before passing through this area.

In Lai Chau province, landslides continue to occur on the main traffic artery connecting Lai Chau with Lao Cai (National Highway 4D).

On the afternoon of July 2, the Traffic Police Department of Lai Chau Province announced that a serious landslide occurred at Km76+650m (from Lai Chau to Lao Cai), causing the road to be completely blocked, vehicles could not travel from O Quy Ho Pass to Sa Pa and vice versa.
To ensure safe traffic for vehicles, the Traffic Police Department of Lai Chau Province has instructed people to travel on the following alternative routes:
From Lai Chau center to Hanoi or Yen Bai (old): when reaching Km64 National Highway 4D (ie Son Binh - old Tam Duong intersection), turn to National Highway 32 towards Than Uyen, then follow National Highway 279.
In the opposite direction from Hanoi to Lai Chau, vehicles should also follow the same route.
Currently, Lai Chau provincial authorities are actively working to fix the landslide. Information on the road opening time will be updated by the authorities later.
