Focus on responding to storm number 6

On August 30, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed the Prime Minister's dispatch on focusing on responding to storm No. 6.

The telegram stated that storm No. 6 (international name Nongfa) is moving rapidly (speed of about 20-25km/hour) towards the sea and mainland of the Central region of our country.

According to the forecast of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, storm No. 6 will make landfall in Ha Tinh province and the northern part of Quang Tri province - areas that have been affected by storms and floods due to the influence of storm No. 5; provinces from Thanh Hoa to Hue city will have heavy to very heavy rain; there is a very high risk of flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas and flooding in low-lying areas, riverside areas, and urban areas. This is a fast-moving storm, making landfall during the weekend and preparations for the National Day celebration on September 2 are taking place.

To proactively respond to storm No. 6 and floods caused by the storm, ensure people's safety, and minimize damage to people's and State's property, the Prime Minister requested the Chairmen of the People's Committees of provinces and cities to monitor and regularly update information on storm and flood developments, to proactively direct the implementation of response work in accordance with specific developments in the locality.

The Prime Minister requested to continue to review and count ships and vehicles operating at sea; to use all means to inform ships and vehicles still operating at sea about the storm's developments; to guide them to move out of and not enter areas at risk of being affected by the storm; to call on and guide ships and vehicles to safe storm shelters; to guide and support people in implementing necessary measures to ensure the safety of ships and vehicles at anchorage (to prevent sinking at shelters), especially to be on guard against storms and lightning that could cause damage before the storm directly affects them...

The Minister of Agriculture and Environment directed the hydrometeorological forecasting agency to continue to closely monitor and provide full and timely information on the developments of storms, floods and rains to authorities and people so that they can proactively deploy response work; proactively direct the work of ensuring the safety of dykes, irrigation dams, and protecting agricultural production; organize 24/7 on-duty to closely monitor the situation, proactively direct and urge localities to deploy response work in accordance with the actual situation, promptly report and propose to the Prime Minister to direct issues beyond their authority.

The Minister of Industry and Trade directs the work of ensuring the safety of hydroelectric dams; ensuring the safety of the power system; taking proactive measures to respond to incidents in areas forecast to be at high risk of being isolated due to flooding and landslides; and ensuring the supply of essential goods.

The Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security have directed to prepare plans, proactively arrange forces and mobile vehicles to support local people in areas forecasted to be at high risk of being cut off and isolated due to the impact of storms and floods; and be ready to deploy response and rescue work when requested.

Vietnam Electricity Group urgently deploys measures to ensure the safety of hydroelectric reservoirs, transmission systems and power infrastructure works, and is ready to take measures to quickly overcome the consequences and ensure electricity supply for production and people's daily life.
