As of early August, the province had 4,904 fishing vessels of 6m or more, of which 4,642 had been granted fishing licenses, reaching a rate of nearly 95%. For the 391 vessels that did not meet operating conditions, the province made a specific list for each group and locality, assigned officers to closely monitor and supervise, and mobilized ship owners to voluntarily dismantle or not take their ships to sea. Border guards, commune police, and fishing ports were assigned to inspect and seal offending vessels if necessary to thoroughly prevent illegal fishing.
According to the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province, although many positive results have been achieved, the province's work to prevent and combat IUU fishing still faces many difficulties. Notably, about 1,200 fishing boats of the province regularly operate outside the locality and do not return for many years, making it very difficult to verify, investigate and handle violations.
The province is making efforts to completely resolve the existing problems and limitations, determined to work with the whole country to remove the IUU "yellow card". The focus is on managing fishing vessels (including fishing vessels on shore as well as operating at sea) and resolutely handling violations.
