Journalists' thoughts amid the "whirlwind" of change

In the past few days, when the news about the merger of newspapers and the provincial Radio and Television Station broke out, my mood - a journalist who has devoted his entire youth to the profession - became more turbulent than ever. It was not only a vague anxiety about the future but also a complex mix of nostalgia, regret and even a little insecurity in me...

I still remember clearly the day I first entered the Binh Thuan Newspaper office, which was located next to the poetic Ca Ty River. The distinctive smell of ink and paper, the noisy sound of printers, and the urgent working atmosphere of a press agency immediately attracted me. From a young journalism intern, I was enthusiastically instructed and guided by my colleagues. Each first article was still clumsy, each report had many shortcomings, but all contained youthful enthusiasm and passion for the profession. Here, I lived my life to the fullest with journalism, witnessed the daily changes of my hometown Phan Thiet - Binh Thuan, the transformation of the local Party newspaper, and met ordinary but noble people through each article, each trip to the base, and also colleagues who silently and quietly contributed to the development of this newspaper. Binh Thuan Newspaper is not only my workplace but also my second home, where I find joy, meaning and my soulmates. When I heard the news of the merger, the first thing I felt was a sense of loss: The newspaper named Binh Thuan Newspaper that I have been attached to for many years, the place that holds so many memories of my youth, is about to disappear. My close colleagues, those who have shared the ups and downs with me in the past, may have to leave or move to a new working environment. My colleagues and I feel like we are standing at an important crossroads in our lives...

The name Binh Thuan Newspaper will remain a memory.

However, besides the disappointment, we feel a little hopeful. Because the merger of the press is a major policy of the Party and the State, aiming at the goal of streamlining the apparatus and improving the operational efficiency of press agencies. The merger can create a more dynamic and professional working environment. When resources are concentrated, press agencies will have the conditions to invest in modern facilities and technology, and especially in the future, they will focus on training and fostering a team of reporters and editors... Thanks to that, the quality of information and professionalism in the work of all types of press will be increasingly improved and more modern. In addition, the merger will create a more competitive working environment, motivating each journalist to make more efforts to improve their professional capacity and affirm their position in the new context...

However, every night I still cannot help but wonder and worry about the challenges on the road ahead: Will we be able to easily integrate into a new working environment? Will we be able to “compete” with colleagues from the merged provincial press agencies and will we be able to maintain our own identity, that of the old newspaper, without being dissolved into a large group. During these days, I often ask myself, what is most important to a journalist? It is not fame, position or articles that resonate, but perhaps the most important thing for journalists like us is love for the profession, honesty and responsibility to society. Even though the newspaper changes, even though the working environment is different, I believe that those values will still be the guiding compass for our journey ahead.

In just a few days, the name Binh Thuan Newspaper will no longer exist. Thinking about this, my colleagues and I cannot help but feel disappointed and regretful. However, in this difficult transition period, the most important thing for us is solidarity and unity. Right now, everyone needs to overcome challenges together, build a new working environment together, where everyone feels respected, listened to and given the conditions to develop together. Above all, journalists in Binh Thuan in particular and soon Lam Dong in general need to maintain the passion for the profession, always put the interests of readers first and constantly strive to bring high-quality journalism products. With the mindset of a journalist who wants to stick with the profession for a long time, we will try to overcome difficulties, contribute our best to the development of the province's journalism, no matter what the future holds...
