Tung Loc commune currently has about 480 hectares of agricultural land, of which up to 400 hectares are damaged by golden apple snails, mainly adult snails with a common density of 8-10 snails/m², in some places from 3-5 snails/m². The situation is more serious in low-lying rice fields.

According to Mr. Nguyen Chi Tung, previously, in spring rice production, golden apple snails were mixed in straw and buried in the ground by plows; the rainy and cool weather created favorable conditions for the snails to thrive and crawl up, damaging the newly sown rice fields of the people.

Immediately after the discovery, farmers mobilized manpower to manually collect snails day and night, combined with additional sowing in the destroyed fields.

The collected snails are resold to wholesalers at a price of 2,500 - 3,000 VND/kg. In particular, during peak days from June 12 to June 16, the commune collects an average of about 5 tons of snails per day, helping to reduce damage and increase income for people.

Local people assess that if not handled promptly, golden apple snails can cause loss of summer-autumn rice areas, affecting the crop. Taking advantage of the collected snails to sell to purchasing agents to import to processing facilities to make fish feed and livestock feed also brings practical economic efficiency.
