Cat Ba National Park has an area of over 17,000 hectares, established in 1986, is the first national park in Vietnam to combine forest and marine ecosystems, and was recognized by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve in 2004.
The Cat Ba National Park ranger unit has 60 members, divided into 13 stations, each month the stations organize continuous patrols for about 15-20 days to protect and prevent acts of encroachment on the National Park. GPS positioning devices are also used to help the rangers control all activities in the area under their management.
Mr. Doan Duc Lan - Deputy Head of Ang Ke Forest Ranger Station, Cat Ba National Park, Hai Phong said: "Every month, we are assigned areas to manage forest resources. In addition, we also do propaganda work for the people, sign commitments to protect the forest, focus on protecting migratory birds as well as wild animals."
Cat Ba National Park affirms its position on the world's nature conservation map.
Thanks to good protection work, Cat Ba National Park is developing a rich variety of flora and fauna from land to sea. In particular, Cat Ba langur is one of the 25 most endangered primate species in the world on the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature since 2000.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thiu - Director of Cat Ba National Park Management Board added: "Since 2000 when we discovered Cat Ba Langur, there were only about 40 individuals left. Over the past 20 years, with conservation work, the number of individuals has increased to 92 individuals. This is proof of the good work of protecting and conserving rare and endangered animals."
French tourist Juliette Criqui commented: "Here is filled with green, beautiful forests and fresh air, very suitable for trekking trips to explore the natural world."
Recently, Hai Phong City has established the Steering Committee for the Management of the World Natural Heritage of Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago, focusing on protecting the ecosystem at Cat Ba National Park to promote the value of the world natural heritage recognized by UNESCO.
