This situation makes many people in Ea O commune (Cu Elang commune and Ea O commune, old Ea Kar district) who use water from the project very worried about water quality.

The family of Ms. Ha Thi Bang (Thai ethnic group) is one of many households in Van Kieu hamlet using water from the above project. Ms. Bang said that her family has been using tap water since 2020. Every day, she drains tap water into a 1,000-liter tank and uses it gradually. However, in recent months, the tap water has occasionally turned murky brown, and when checked, a lot of dirt was found at the bottom of the tank. She has to turn on the faucet, drain all the murky water, then clean the tank and then pump the water up for use, which is very inconvenient.

The water source of the Cu Elang commune domestic water supply project at some point turned murky brown. (Photo taken at 10:50 a.m. on July 15, 2025 at Ms. Ha Thi Bang's house).

Similarly, Mr. Ha Viet Bay's family (in village 2) also encountered the above situation. Mr. Bay said that his family has 5 members. Previously, his family used both well water and tap water from the project, but in early 2023, they switched to using tap water. Recently, sometimes the tap water when discharged into the basin is murky brown, and after a while, a lot of mud settles down. Each time like that, Mr. Bay has to drain the water for many hours until the water is clear again before continuing to use it. "I was afraid that the water quality might not be guaranteed, affecting my health, so I had to buy 2 more filters to attach to the front of the pipe leading to the water purifier and washing machine of my family. Sometimes when I turn on the faucet, I see a lot of white foam floating in the water," Mr. Bay said.

According to research, not only the two households above but many other households in villages such as: village 1, village 2, village 6B, village 6E, Ea Rot village, Van Kieu village... using water from the project also encountered the above situation.

Regarding this issue, Mr. Pham Ngoc Binh, Director of the Provincial Center for Clean Water and Rural Environmental Sanitation, said that the water source of the project being cloudy and having sediment as reported by the people could be due to a broken pipe.

Recently, the construction unit of Khanh Hoa – Buon Ma Thuot Expressway, the section through Ea O commune (Km73+262.7) with many specialized vehicles working day and night, has broken the pipeline many times. In some cases, the construction unit broke the pipe but did not notify the center in time to organize a repair, causing a large amount of soil to flow into the broken pipe location.

There are also cases where farmers accidentally crack or break pipelines, leading to similar situations. Since the beginning of 2025, the center has detected and handled 27 pipeline rupture incidents, mainly occurring in highway construction areas.

Workers of the provincial Center for Rural Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation fix the broken D168 pipeline at the intersection of the highway access road in village 6B, Ea O commune.

Regarding quality, Mr. Binh affirmed that the water at the project is treated in accordance with national standards on clean water for domestic use issued by the Ministry of Health . Every 6 months, an independent water quality measurement unit will take water samples at the project for testing according to regulations. The most recent test was at the end of 2024, and the water sample test results all met national standards.

In response to the people's feedback, the center will send workers to inspect and promptly and thoroughly fix the problems, ensuring a stable and continuous water supply for the people. At the same time, the highway construction unit is requested to immediately notify the center if a pipe breaks during construction to stop the water supply and repair it promptly...

It is known that the Cu Elang commune domestic water supply project was approved by the Provincial People's Committee in Decision No. 1445/QD-UBND, dated July 1, 2014. The project is invested by the People's Committee of Ea Kar district (old), with a total investment of more than 26.8 billion VND. The project started in September 2014 and was completed in November 2016. The project was handed over to the Provincial Center for Clean Water and Rural Environmental Sanitation for management, operation and exploitation in October 2017. The Center is providing water to 1,688 households in Ea O commune.
