People and hospitals benefit together

On the morning of August 15, at the information kiosk of Da Nang City Hospital of Traditional Medicine, Mr. Nguyen Tinh (born in 1966, residing in Hoa Khanh ward) attentively listened to medical staff support each step of installing and using the electronic health book on the VNeID application.

“I had never heard of this utility before. When I was instructed, I found it very convenient because I could track my medical records and medical history right on my phone,” he said excitedly.

At the Department of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics ( Da Nang City Traditional Medicine Hospital), doctor Nguyen Thi My Linh and patient Nguyen Thi Huong (born in 1968, Hoa Cuong ward) are reviewing information on the electronic health book.

Ms. Huong said that when she was still working at the agency, she was instructed to use and maintain this habit to monitor her health status. “The electronic health book helps me save time, and is convenient in managing records and monitoring health,” she said.

According to Dr. My Linh, integrating health records into VNeID helps doctors grasp the patient's medical history, test results and previous diagnoses at other medical facilities.

“From there, we have the basis for more accurate diagnosis, avoiding duplicate tests. Patients can also monitor their treatment process, contributing to improving the quality of medical examination and treatment,” said Dr. Linh.

Deputy Director of Da Nang Oncology Hospital Phan Vinh Sinh said that using health insurance on VNeID helps patients reduce the risk of forgetting, losing or damaging their cards. Information is synchronized and authenticated quickly, helping to shorten the time for medical examination and treatment procedures.

The VNeID system also has the ability to accurately verify health insurance information, preventing the use of fake or other people's cards. "People can also review their medical examination and treatment history and health insurance benefits online, being more proactive in managing their health and using medical services," said Dr. Sinh.

Many forms of propaganda and support

To bring this utility into life, medical examination and treatment facilities in the area have stepped up propaganda and guidance for people. At the Traditional Medicine Hospital of Da Nang City, Head of the General Planning - Information Technology Department Tran Thi Huong Lai said that the unit has ensured that medical examination and treatment data is pushed to the Health Insurance Assessment Portal, from which it is integrated into the electronic health book on VNeID.

“100% of the hospital’s staff, civil servants, and employees have completed the integration. For patients, we support them in many ways: broadcasting videos at information kiosks, providing direct guidance at clinics, communicating at patient council meetings…”, Ms. Lai said. She affirmed that this is a regular task associated with health education, aiming to increase the rate of people using electronic health records.

At Da Nang Oncology Hospital, Deputy Director Phan Vinh Sinh said that as soon as this feature was launched, the unit arranged staff at the reception desk and support area to directly guide people through each step of installation, registration and linking health insurance information. At the same time, the information technology department was mobilized to provide technical support, helping people complete the process right on the first visit.

However, the process still encountered many obstacles. Doctor Nguyen Thi My Linh said that some patients did not have smartphones to use.

Dr. Phan Vinh Sinh added that the difficulty is that some people are not used to using digital applications, especially the elderly; many cases do not have smartphones. In addition, with the current number of patients coming to the hospital every day, the support staff at the hospital also have to take on many other jobs, so the pressure during rush hour is quite high.

“To overcome this, the hospital will continue to arrange staff to directly guide, combine with distributing documents and illustrative videos for people to easily follow. The unit will also increase communication via the website, fanpage and loudspeaker system in the hospital, and at the same time integrate the content of instructions into patient council meetings, gradually helping to form the habit of using electronic health insurance in the community,” Dr. Sinh shared.

The synchronous deployment of electronic health records on VNeID not only helps people to be more convenient in medical examination and treatment, and health record management, but is also an important step in the digital transformation roadmap of the health sector. This is also the foundation for the city to move towards forming "digital citizens" in the health sector, closely linked to the goal of building a digital government and digital society.
