Comprehensive review of national treasure protection work

On June 10, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh issued an official dispatch requesting the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) to preside over and coordinate with relevant ministries, branches and localities to review and evaluate the overall work of displaying, preserving, protecting, and ensuring security and safety for national treasures nationwide.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is assigned to guide, inspect and supervise the work of preserving, restoring and embellishing relics and heritages, ensuring effective management and promotion of their values. Issues beyond its authority must be summarized and reported to competent authorities before June 30.

Up to now, Vietnam has recognized more than 260 national treasures through 12 periods, including many valuable artifacts dating back thousands of years such as: Ngoc Lu bronze drum, Dao Thinh bronze jar, thousand-eyed, thousand-armed Buddha statue at But Thap pagoda, Vinh Lang stele (Lam Kinh)...

This move was made after a series of incidents of national treasures being violated, most recently the Nguyen Dynasty throne at Thai Hoa Palace ( Hue Ancient Capital Relics) being vandalized. In this situation, the Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to strengthen measures to absolutely protect the safety of national treasures, avoiding irreparable losses.
