Daihatsu will unveil its first electric vehicle at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS 2025) that will open later this month, according to a Daihatsu sales representative. The person said that the electric vehicle mentioned above is the new Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid 2025 currently on sale in the Japanese market. In fact, this model was displayed at the GIIAS exhibition in 2022 and 2024.
When it arrives in Indonesia, the car is expected to cost around 300 million Rupiah (about 474 million VND). That means this model will be in the same segment and price range as the Suzuki Fronx Hybrid - a new compact SUV line launched in the Indonesian market. Not only is there price information, Daihatsu has also started taking deposits for the Rocky Hybrid. Users only need to deposit 2 million Rupiah (about 3 million VND) to reserve a place for the SUV twin to the Toyota Raize. “The deposit fee is 2 million Rupiah,” said the seller. Except for the engine, the Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid is almost unchanged from the regular gasoline version. From the headlights, taillights, grille to decorative details remain the same. The only difference is the “e-Smart Hybrid” logo on the rear trunk door and the Daihatsu logo with a blue border to identify the hybrid version. The Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid is equipped with a digital dashboard, electronic handbrake, automatic temporary brake hold feature, 100V power outlet, pre-collision warning system, pre-collision braking, throttle control, warning when the vehicle in front departs, lane departure warning and lane departure prevention.
Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid is equipped with a WA-VEX gasoline engine with 3 inline cylinders, 1.2L capacity, producing a maximum capacity of 80 horsepower and maximum torque of 105 Nm. The engine is combined with the e-Smart Hybrid system, which acts as a generator, supplying energy to the lithium-ion battery and the electric motor mounted on the front axle. The electric motor has a maximum capacity of 104 horsepower and a maximum torque of 170 Nm. Daihatsu claims this compact SUV has a fuel consumption of just 28 km/l (about 3.57 liters/100 km). The 4.3 Ah lithium-ion battery is located under the rear seats.
Another highlight of the car is the Smart Pedal (S-PDL) feature, which allows the driver to operate the car with just one pedal, similar to a pure electric car. When releasing the accelerator, the car will automatically decelerate and stop without having to brake. Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid promises to be a formidable competitor to Suzuki Fronx Hybrid in the small SUV segment in Indonesia, with competitive prices, fuel-efficient hybrid technology and modern features. GIIAS 2025 will be the official stage for this launch, and will certainly attract a lot of attention from the market. It is not yet clear whether Toyota plans to sell a similar hybrid version of the Raize in the Indonesian or Vietnamese markets in the future. However, with the appearance of the Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid, this is entirely possible.
