Acting President receives WB Country Director in Vietnam

On the afternoon of March 27, at the Presidential Palace, Acting President Vo Thi Anh Xuan received Ms. Carolyn Turk, Country Director of the World Bank (WB) in Vietnam, who came to say goodbye and end her term of office.

At the reception, ActingPresident Vo Thi Anh Xuan congratulated Ms. Carolyn Turk on her successful tenure in Vietnam. The Acting President appreciated the WB for its active support in many countries to develop better, contributing to improving people's living standards, especially in poor and developing countries.

The Acting President stated that over the past 30 years, the World Bank has accompanied and provided practical support in Vietnam's Renovation process. For Vietnam, the WB is one of the three development partners, providing the largest foreign loans. These loans are allocated in many different fields, implementing many highly effective projects, contributing to improving and enhancing people's lives.

In particular, during her term in Vietnam, Ms. Carolyn Turk actively promoted cooperation between Vietnam and the World Bank; including very meaningful activities such as: deferring loan repayments; having initiatives to support countries in preventing and combating COVID-19; providing non-refundable aid to help Vietnam overcome the pandemic and restore socio-economic development; mobilizing resources for Vietnam's development investment...

The Acting President hopes that, with her deep affection and concern for Vietnam, regardless of her position, Ms. Carolyn Turk will continue to contribute her voice to the WB to fulfill the commitments between the two sides. The Acting President suggested that in the coming time, the WB continue to closely cooperate and support Vietnam in the development process; help Vietnam implement key national projects on a large scale in the fields of: Transport infrastructure, urban areas, renewable energy, smart agriculture, climate change response, etc. In addition, the WB continues to support non-refundable aid for Vietnam to fulfill its international commitments to the United Nations related to areas such as: Peacekeeping, international security, climate change, sustainable development, ensuring water security, food security, etc.

Emphasizing vulnerable groups, remote areas, women and girls, Acting President Vo Thi Anh Xuan hopes that in the coming time, Vietnam and the WB will have more priority programs and projects for these groups.

World Bank Country Director for Vietnam Carolyn Turk thanked the Acting President, the Office of the President, and agencies, ministries, and localities for their support to the WB and her personally during her tenure in Vietnam. Referring to the current world context with complex and unpredictable developments, wars, and conflicts affecting global trade and Vietnam's socio-economic growth goals, Ms. Carolyn Turk affirmed that the WB is ready to accompany Vietnam on the journey to realize development goals.

Informing that the WB is developing documents on the Strategic Partnership with the Government of Vietnam, Ms. Carolyn Turk affirmed that the WB will work with the Government of Vietnam in the coming time to specify this content, especially the capital to support Vietnam in the period of 2023 - 2027.
