In a recent statement on Telegram, Ukrainian MP Marianna Bezuglaya said that the Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) have launched fierce attacks on the city of Pokrovsk. And the Ukrainian Army at this stronghold is facing extremely difficult times. However, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), General Oleksandr Syrskyi, still made optimistic statements about the situation in Oleksandr Syrskyi. It seems that the AFU does not want the Ukrainian public to pay attention to the situation of the forces defending Pokrovsk.
According to Ms. Bezuglaya, instead of mentioning Pokrovsk, AFU reported on the Zaporizhzhia war as well as the decision to increase forces for the southern Donbass front. General Syrskyi is spreading news about the danger in the Zaporizhzhia direction to distract public opinion from the failures in Pokrovsk, writes Ms. Bezuglaya. This obscures the fact that Russian troops are already in Pokrovsk. Open sources of information indicate that the RFAF offensive on Pokrovsk has entered a decisive phase and has been confirmed by all sides, both Russia and Ukraine. Currently, RFAF reconnaissance and commando groups have long penetrated the city, and RFAF assault units have also reached the southern outskirts. Ms. Bezuglaya, citing sources from a number of war correspondents, described the situation of Ukrainian units defending the city as hopeless. Many opinions of the commanders of the AFU units defending Pokrovsk suggested retreating to preserve their forces, but their opinions were completely ignored. Ms. Bezuglaya also published two maps for comparison, one old and one new. The first one shows the positions of Ukrainian troops in Avdiivka when the city was besieged, and the new satellite images of Pokrovsk. The images on them are almost identical. It should be noted that Mirnohrad is currently besieged along with Pokrovsk.
Meanwhile, Russian sources also said that the RFAF is intensifying offensive operations on the Pokrovsk front; Russian troops have made significant progress in the Mayak settlement, located north of the city of Pokrovsk, which was overrun by the RFAF last night. But the most important events are taking place in and around the city of Pokrovsk, where fierce fighting is taking place. To the southeast, the RFAF is flanking Myrnohrad. It is difficult to predict when Myrnohrad will fall completely; but there is no doubt that the Russian offensive in Pokrovsk is going in their favor. Importantly, the RFAF has formed a pincer attack from around Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad. A report from the Russian Ministry of Defense on July 29 said that the RFAF has taken control of the village of Novoukrainka, a small village located along the E50 highway, 3 km from Pokrovsk. Not far away, the village of Shevchenko has also been taken by Russian troops. This meant putting the AFU defenses in the south under terrible pressure, as the Russians were ready to break through to Pokrovsk from that direction. Meanwhile, the supply route from Dobropoliye to Pokrovsk was either cut off by the RFAF or suppressed by fire. Fortunately, this is not the last supply channel for the Ukrainian troops in Pokrovsk, but the remaining AFU supply routes will certainly soon fall under Russian control, eventually forming a siege on the Ukrainian defense forces. The Russian Rybar channel reported that the RFAF broke into the center of Pokrovsk without waiting for the city to be completely surrounded. After finishing off the enemy in the southern suburbs of Pokrovsk and significantly hampering the supply situation, the Russians broke into the city center. The appearance of Russian troops north of Zashchitnikov Ukrainy Street caused panic among the Ukrainian troops.
After that, the Russians successfully broke through the Ukrainian defense line into the city, continuously expanding the base of the spearhead and preventing the Ukrainians from counterattacking from the flanks. As a result, the RFAF entered the Gornyak district and advanced further - in the direction of the railway station. The Military Summary channel said that the Central Market area and the Rynok bus station, located to the west, are now under Russian control. Fighting is taking place near the district administration building and the city council. The RVvoenkory channel reported that the Ukrainian army from the southern outskirts of Pokrovsk to the city center was divided into two parts. There was no direct transport route between the two sides, the only remaining route was the one that passed through the north of the city.
Thus, it can be said that the Russians entered Pokrovsk without waiting for the city to be completely surrounded. Some supply routes to the Ukrainian troops in the city were cut off, and the northern and western routes were under fire control, at least partially. Now the RFAF’s siege of Pokrovsk is clearer, on July 30, Russian troops broke through to the town of Belitskoye, located north of Pokrovsk, threatening to expand the siege on Ukrainian troops in Pokrovsk.
